Throwing your controller in a fit of rage after losing a game is one thing, but how many of us have picked up and thrown the chair we’re sitting in, not in anger but in joy after winning? This is precisely what happened over the weekend during aMortal Kombat 1tournament, costing the winner their prize money because they damaged expensive equipment.
For context, the CEO 2024 Fighting Game Championships took place recently at Daytona Beach in Florida. There were a number of fighting game tournaments; one of which was forMortal Kombat 1. A player known as Dyloch went on to win the grand finals (as spotted byTheGamer), and decided the best way to celebrate his victory was by throwing his chair out of the ring.

Thankfully, no one was injured, but the chair did hit a very expensive light fixture.According to Alex Jebailey, the CEO of CEO Gaming, one of these fixtures costs approximately $2,992, and he even tweetedasking for Dyloch’s PayPal infosince “somebody’s paying for that broken light fixture and it’s not me.” Apparently, Dyloch won $565 for winning the tournament, meaning he’s not only lost all of it, but also an additional $2,427 out of his own pocket. While he did agree to “take responsibility for the light,” Dyloch doesn’t seem to broken up about not getting to keep the prize money if hispost-match Tweetis anything to go by.
This isn’t the only consequence of Dyloch’s chair throwing, though. Jebailey has alsothreatened to bananyone from future CEO tournaments should something like this happen again: “If one more person pops off throwing anything you will be banned from any event I ever do. This is a final warning to anyone in the future. Do not throw things.” It’s a perfectly reasonable request considering the risk of injury. Things would’ve been far more dire for Dyloch had he accidentally hit someone in the head with that chair.
