Pennywise the Dancing Clown, the most famous form of the cosmic monster known simply as “It,” has not had a major presence in video games. Since Stephen King’sItnovel is one of the most popular horror novels of all time, spawning a cult classic mini-series and record-breaking blockbuster movie, it’s a bit odd that we haven’t seen a proper video game starring the character (or virtually any video games based on King’s work in general, for that matter). Other fans have taken note of this, with one even asking Ed Boon to add Pennywise toMortal Kombat 11.

If there is one existing video game where Pennywise would fit right in, it would beMortal Kombat 11. Pennywise isn’t exactly known for its hand-to-hand combat, but its ability to transform into virtually anything could make for a very unique move-set. Its Fatality could also incorporate its Deadlights, or maybe its “true” form as a giant spider (the human mind can’t actually comprehend what It looks like, so the spider is as close as we can get).

Unfortunately, it seems highly unlikely that Pennywise will come toMortal Kombat 11. Ed Boon responded to the fan inquiry with the song “I Wish” by Stevie Wonder, though, so it does seem like he would be open the idea.

Mortal Kombat 11fans are only guaranteed two more guest fighters in the game as part of Kombat Pack 1. These characters have remained a mystery so far, but multiple leaks have potentially revealed them to be The Terminator andAsh Williams from theEvil Deadfranchise. Datamining efforts have also found evidence that The Joker from DC Comics is also being considered for a guest fighter role in the game.

IfThe Joker is added toMortal Kombat 11as rumored, it seems like a possible Pennywise appearance would be even less likely. After all, it would be a bit odd to have two deranged killer clowns on one fighting game roster - but then again, theMortal Kombatseries has had no shortage of palette-swapped ninjas over the years, so maybe it could still happen.

Mortal Kombat 11is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version in development as well.
