Warner Bros. has attempted to get aMortal Kombatmovie rebootoff the ground for years, with little to no luck. However, a few months ago, screenwriter Greg Russo confirmed that theMortal Kombatmovie had a script, location, director, and cast list, but was still waiting on the official go-ahead from Warner Bros. Now it appears Warner Bros. has given the green light for theMortal Kombatmovie reboot, with James Wan serving as producer.
For the uninitiated, James Wan is known for his work on both mainstream blockbuster movies as well as horror films. He recently directedAquaman, which pulled in over $1 billion at the box office, and he has also worked on theFast and Furiousfranchise. In terms of horror films, he’s best known as the director ofSawand the creator ofThe Conjuringcinematic universe. Needless to say, Wan’s experience with both blood-soaked horror films and over-the-top action movies should make him a unique asset for theMortal Kombatmovie reboot.
Meanwhile, theMortal Kombatmovie will be shot in South Australia on the Adelaide Studios Sound Stages. It will be directed by Simon McQuoid, who is making his directorial debut with theMortal Kombatmovie.
Unfortunately, further details on theMortal Kombatmovie reboot and what it will entail are unavailable at the time of this writing. We don’t know whichMortal Kombatgame the plot will be inspired by, or if it will decide to carve out a unique story all its own. A previous leak claims that it will be about a new character named Cole Turner who is recruited to protect Earthrealm, but that has yet to be confirmed. We also don’t know any of the actors that have been hired to play the franchise’s iconic characters.
While we don’t know the actors that will be appearing theMortal Kombatmovie reboot, a character list did leak a couple months ago. If that list is accurate, these are theMortal Kombatcharacters in the movie reboot:
Now that production is actually starting on theMortal Kombatmovie reboot, hopefully more details are revealed to fans sooner rather than later.
