Players ofBaldur’s Gate 3have recently been discussing the mysterious fate of a certain character. Considering how similar they are to Astarion, it’s surprising that there hasn’t been a lot of discussion around this character previously.BG3fans rarely leave mysteries unsolved, but there seems to be one thing that has left them completely stumped.

Reddit userbirdandbearpointed out thatthe fate of Amanita Szarr is still unknown to players.Otherwise known as Lady Incognita, she was a terribly young vampire spawn that rejected Cazador’s “family rites.” Several notes and books can be found in Cazador’s attic that were written by her. However, players will find absolutely no trace of her outside of her writing - so what exactly happened to Amanita?

Everyone Has Different Theories About BG3’s Amanita Szarr

Theories Range From Her Being Killed By Jaheira To Being Trapped In A Scroll

Amanita’s most likely fate is a bittersweet one.As the Reddit user mentioned, there’s nothing but crates, odd pieces of loot, andbooks in Cazador’s attic- there’s not even a skeleton to imply that she eventually starved to death. What players can find is a hole in the roof, where sunlight shines through.

It’s possible that seeing Amanita in the flesh wascut content from the Upper City.

It seems likeAmanita earned her freedom from Cazador, but in the worst way possible. If she somehow made this hole in the roof herself, without a tadpole to protect her from the sun, she would have completely burned. It’s unclear if she would have done this on purpose or not, but being a vampire spawn was certainly causing her to suffer. This explains why there appear to be no signs of her, despite the fact that we know she was stuck in the attic.

Jaheira can mention how she once killed a vampireby half-burying it and allowing it to die in the sunlight. UserSunny_Hill_1pointed out that Astarion and his siblings are accustomed to hiding their true nature, but Amanita was not - and thus more likely to accidentally show it in front of Jaheira. This timeline may be a little off, though, since Amanita was alive fifteen years ago, and Jaheira recounts the story as an event from her “youth.”

“For my sins, my soul was made ink and written onto this parchment, where its scrawl crawls sleeplessly for eternity - unless you free it.” - Eternal Cruelty

Another theory is that Amanita is trapped in a scroll, which would also explain the absence of her remains. The “Eternal Cruelty"scroll found by Vellioth’s skullseems to imply that somebody’s soul was made into ink used to write on it. Although there are no obvious direct links to Amanita, it would truly be an ironic fate for an author.
