After taking over the streaming charts and social media conversations,Netflix’sSquid Gameis now in the run to win three Golden Globe Awards. The Korean dystopian drama was nominated in three different categories when the announcements for the Golden Globe Awards were made on Monday. The nominations have been appreciated and welcomed by fans of the series.
TheNetflixseries started streaming in September and since thenSquid Gamehas become most-watched serieson the service. On the show, contestants participate in a series of children’s games, including “Red Light, Green Light” and tug of war. However, there are deathly consequences to losing a game, a fact that the contestants only discover once they start playing the first game. Now, the series will participate in its own contest, the awards.

Lee Jung-jae, who portrays the role of the protagonistSeong Gi-hun onSquid Game, received a nomination for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama. The series mostly follows Seong’s journey from a debt-ridden individual to the winner of the horrific games. He is the only one out of the 456 contestants to survive all the games and goes home with the 45.6 billion Korean Won. Lee will be up against Brian Cox forSuccession, Billy Porter forPose, Jeremy Strong forSuccession, and Omar Sy forLupin.
The final nomination went to Oh Yeong-su for the Best Supporting Actor, Television. The South Korean actor portrayed the role of contestant 001, Oh Il-nam, who is revealed at the end to be the person in charge of the games. Ever since the series premiered, the 77-year-old actor has been receiving a lot of praise for his performance and the nomination seems like the perfect cherry on top. Other actors nominated in the category include Billy Crudup forThe Morning Show,Kieran Culkin forSuccession, Mark Duplass forThe Morning Show, and Brett Goldstein forTed Lasso.
