There were some incredible reveals during the Nintendo Indie Direct showcase today, but one announcement for a spooky life simulation game that’s available on multiple platforms should be at the top of your wishlist.Neverwaylooks like a spooky version ofStardew Valleymixed withUndertale, and it’s set to release sometime in 2026.
Neverwayis a life sim game by developers at Coldblood Inc., and it was revealed at the Indie Direct showcase by Nintendo today (August 7).Neverwayis described as"a blend of horror, life sim, and action RPG,“and it looks like a unique entry in an otherwise saturated genre of simulation RPGs.
Everything We Know About Neverway
Role-Play As Fiona & Experience A True Nightmare
Neverwaywas announced today at theNintendo Indie World Showcaseand is planned for a 2026 release, though a specific launch date isn’t available yet. The RPG places players in the role of Fiona, who is starting life over on a farm after quitting her job. However, she quicklyfalls into some unexpected circumstancesas she"becomes the immortal herald of a dead god.”
Neverway will feature an original soundtrack by Disasterpeace, the composer behind indie games such asFezandHyper Light Drifter. Gameplay is centered aroundkeeping Fiona’s life together"while searching for Neverway, a nightmare reality that is slowly leaking into yours."
Similar toStardew Valleyand other life sims, you’ll be able to interact with, become friends with, and even date ten different characters in the game. UnlikeStardew, however, each relationship willunlock unique abilities and buffs that will help in combat.
Another exciting feature of these relationships is that characters will have regular routines thatplayers can benefit from learning, and even plan events out,“like game nights or picnics.“Developers noted that they already"have 150 different ones implemented in the game at this point.”
Neverway Looks Like A Real Spin On A Saturated Genre
Gameplay Looks Like A Solid Mix Of New Ideas & Beloved Genre Tropes
With so many games being made in the life sim RPG genre, it’s become a pretty oversaturated space where standing out with something original is becoming more and more difficult. However, I thinkNeverwaylooks incredibly original in terms of its overall premise and how it incorporates beloved genre tropes while presenting new and unique features.
While we don’t have a ton of footage to go on, what has been revealed so far looks like it could be worth a wishlist for any fans of the life sim genre, especially those who have a keen taste for horror or suspense games as well.Neverwaypromises to be a fresh and addictive game that will keep life sim fans busy once it releases next year.
