Sid Meier’s Civilization 7has had a rocky few months since its initial release, but a new update will finally deal with one of the core complaints about the game. With multiple updates rolling out since launch, none previously addressed a common complaint regarding Age Transitions: units being reset at the end of an Age.

Community managersar_firaxison Reddit just announceda brand-newSid Meier’s Civilization 7update 1.2.3 that promises to address the issue of units resetting during Age Transitions, set to go live the week of July 20th, 2025. Age Transitions have been a major pain point forCiv 7, and their controversial status is one of the main reasons the game has struggled to attract the same success as previousCivilizationtitles. Patch 1.2.3 will include a unique feature called a Continuity Setting that will let players' units remain locked in place into the next age.

Civ 7 Patch 1.2.3 Improves Age Transitions In A Major Way

A Continuity Setting Will Finally Target One Of Civ 7’s Most-Hated Features

In theCivsubreddit announcement, sar_firaxis included a nice overview of Patch 1.2.3 that lists all the main updates coming toCiv 7next week. The update will include a much-needed Auto-Explore function as well as a new commander, Trung Nhi, but the biggest and most important improvement comes in the form ofa Continuity Setting that will directly address some players' biggest concerns with Age Transitions.

Firaxis has already rolled out quite a fewupdates to UIand other glaring issues, whichaddress much of the community’s feedback since launch, but nothing that directly takes on the unit-reset feature that was incredibly divisive for most players. Along with a Continuity setting that preserves unit placement across the Ages, there will also be a new countdown feature that notifies players 10 turns in advance that the Age transition is on its way. Further, the update will include improvements to relationship management across the Ages.

Our Take: This Could Be The Patch That Brings Players Back

Civ Fans Who Hated Age Transitions Might Need To Give Civ 7 Another Chance

While Age Transitions may never be a beloved aspect of Civilization 7 gameplay, patch 1.2.3 will improve them in a serious way. I think players who dipped out onCiv 7strictly because of clunky Age Transitions may want to change their tune and give the game another chance. A continuity feature would have been nice from the get-go, butCivilization games have always been about living and learning, and in my view, this update is better late than never.

I think this newest update is a major step in the right direction and could have a huge impact on gameplay between the Ages.

Civilization 7has largely been criticized for over-correcting when it comes to the purported"problems" thatCiv 6had, such asmicromanagement and snowballing, and these unit resets were one part of this. However, I think this newest update is a major step in the right direction and could have a huge impact on gameplay between the Ages. No matter what you think about the state ofSid Meier’s Civilization 7, picking it back up next week when Patch 1.2.3 goes live could be well worth your time.
