In anticipation of the Disney+ documentary seriesMarvel 616, planned to release sometime this fall, Marvel has released two new clips to showcase some of what will be covered by the series. The clips showcase a couple of minutes of content from episode two and four of the upcoming series, titled, “Higher, Further, Faster” and “Lost and Found” respectively.
The episode “Higher, Further, Faster” (a phrase closelyassociated with Captain Marvel) is directed by Gillian Jacobs, and is centered on the pioneering women in Marvel Comics. In the posted clip, Marvel VP Sana Amanat discusses the creation of popular Muslim-American hero Kamala Kahn, and how her own experiences growing up Muslim in the U.S. informed the character.

The second clip, taken from “Lost and Found” features Paul Scheer and his journey to unearth the forgotten heroes of the Marvel universe. Discussion ranges from characters like ‘The Whizzer’ and his origin of injecting himself with mongoose blood, to how writer Reginald Hudlin set about reinventing Black Panther and turning him into the iconic hero he is today.
In case you were wondering about the title, the616 is a reference to the Marvel multiverse. In the Marvel comics, there are a multitude of universes where writers can shake things up,such asMarvel ZombiesorDeadpool Kills the Marvel Universe, and each timeline gets its own number. The Marvel Cinematic Universe, for example, takes place on Earth-199999.The default Marvel timeline, which most comics are based in, and which the documentary will be focusing on, is known as Earth 616.
Even in these short clips, it’s clear just how much fascinating backstory there is behind the powerhouse that is the current Marvel universe. It seems that the idea to peel back the curtain has resulted in a fascinating documentary series that will make a fine addition to the Disney+ library. The topics of other episodes inMarvel 616are yet to be revealed, but no doubt there will be many more surprising histories and amusing tidbits to learn when the full show hits streaming this upcoming fall.
