Elden Ring Nightreignreleases at the end of May, and the game has just received a trailer providing a thorough overview of what to expect from the co-op action roguelite experience.Nightreignis a major departure from its predecessor’s deep RPG gameplay, and one of the lingering questions has been its map variety, since only a couple permutations were playable inNightreign’s Closed Network Test. The game’s story has also remained mysterious, but this latest trailer provides some hints about how its setting differs from the Lands Between.

In the new overview trailer fromBandai Namcoon YouTube, a chapter is dedicated to Limveld itself, and the imagery and voice-over provide some assurance thatNightreignwill have significant map variety. The trailer shows a meteor strike creating a crater, active volcanic craters, Scarlet Rot-stricken forests, and swirling globes of deep blue magic floating in midair, each of which occurs seemingly randomly when entering Limveld. This is in addition to the placement of enemies, locations, and loot being shuffled between matches.

Limveld itself has so far remained mysterious, but this overview trailer provides a hint at what may have occurred prior to whenElden Ring Nightreignis set.“Once a country that thrived thanks to the power of gods, Limveld is now nearing its end,“according to the trailer. “Gradually being eroded by the night that has saturated the land.” When explainingeach ofNightreign’s Nightfarers, the trailer also explained that they have lost their memories during their fight against the Nightlords, and players will gradually recover them throughout the game.

Elden Ring Nightreign Overview Trailer Shows How Limveld Changes Between Matches

Dynamic Events May Occur Mid-Game

SinceElden Ring Nightreignhews closely to the roguelite genre, the changing map has been known about since the game’sreveal at The Game Awards 2024, but this overview trailer now gives a good idea of what players might encounter on various expeditions into Limveld. The first example given is a meteor strike, which creates a crater that seems to have something at its center– likely a boss fight, consideringElden Ring’s Fallingstar Beast bosses. This dynamic event seems to occur mid-game, and there may be more similar to the meteor strikes.

More overt changes seem to appear from the start of the match, changing large swaths of Limveld. Examples given in the trailer includea massive cavern with active lava flows, a vast forest corrupted by Scarlet Rot, and mysterious orbs of swirling blue magic. Such variables will change the landscape of Limveld significantly between runs, forcing players to adapt. With such changes Limveld seems to be an amalgamation of familiar biomes fromElden Ring, including Limgrave, Mt. Gelmir, and Caelid.

New Lore Hints Deepen The Mysteries Of Limveld

Elden Ring’s Gods Are Gone

Elden Ring Nightreigntakes place in a parallel universe toElden Ring, and clearly bears many similarities, but it has not yet been revealed what that means exactly. This new overview trailer does shed some light on what’s happened to Limveld, though. Most notably, it would appear that Limveld has been abandoned by the gods, or they were driven out by the Nightlords.Elden Ring’s Outer Godsare distant, cosmically unfathomable beings that exerted their power through vessels like the Elden Beast, Marika, Rykard, and Mohg, among others.

What still remains unclear is whetherNightreignshares a common past withElden Ring. It’s been generally assumed that there is some inflection point where the two games diverge, a common guess being a different result of the Shattering, the destructive war that ravaged the Lands Between after the Elden Ring was broken. However, it’s not confirmed that Limveld even shares the same physical reality as the Lands Between, despite their similarities, and the mysteries will likely only be solved afterElden Ring Nightreignreleases on May 30.
