Ubisoft is preparing to announce a new game set in theTom Clancy’s Ghost Reconfranchise later this week, the publisher has now confirmed.
Last week saw the launch of ateaser website tied to several Tom Clancy games, an in-universe presentation by Skell Technologies. The teaser didn’t clarify what game franchise it was tied to, leading to broad speculation. Ubisoft has decided to clarify the matter leading up to the May 9 event.
While Ubisoft confirmed that the announcement would be tied to theGhost Reconfranchise with a message on Twitter Monday morning, fans had already figured as much over the weekend. To start, Ubisoft held a free weekend forTom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands. It also pushed a marketing campaign, hiring a large number of Twitch streamers to play throughWildlands' new Operation Oracle story missions. Given last week’s new game teaser and the suddenGhost Recon: Wildlandspush, it only made sense for the new game to be tied toGhost Recon.
Ghost Reconisn’t a straight forward franchise, however. The exact nature of the upcoming announcement remains mysterious. However, the obvious direction for the announcement would be aGhost Recon: Wildlandssequel announcement. After all,Wildlandsis the most recentGhost Recongame, was reasonably successful, and Ubisoft highlighted it over the weekend. However, Ubisoft is notably using just a simpleTom Clancy’s Ghost Reconlogo instead of aWildlandslogo in its Twitter teaser.
It’s possible that the new game could be a direct sequel toWildlands,Future Soldier, Advanced Warfighter, or otherwise. But it’s just as likely to be something new. Given Ubisoft’s predilection for online-focused games with microtransactions, it’s unlikely to shift too far in a new direction.
Fans can likely expect Ubisoft to officially announce the newTom Clancy’s Ghost Recontitle with a cinematic trailer come May 9, 11:30 am PT. WithE3 2019just a month away now, it seems likely the full unveiling of the new game and its gameplay will be reserved for the much bigger event. Anything is possible, though. Fans of theGhost Reconfranchise won’t have to wait long for more information.
The newTom Clancy’sGhost Recontitle is planned to be announced on May 9.
