The first images fromThe Boysprequel,Vought Rising, have been released.The Boysdebuted on Prime Video in 2019 and quickly became one of the most popular shows on the streamer. The superhero satire proved to be so popular that two additional shows have already been produced: an animated anthology series,The Boys Presents: Diabolical,and thespinoff,Gen V.
Vought Risingseason 1will see Jensen Ackles in his early days as Soldier Boy during the 1950s, following his exploits in World War II. His character was first introduced inThe Boysseason 3 as Homelander’s (Antony Starr) father and became one of the main antagonists. Although his defeat led to him being kept in an unconscious state, Soldier Boy will return inThe Boysseason 5.
OnThe Boys’officialXaccount, the first-look images fromVought Risinghave been released. These include Ackles as Soldier Boy, Mason Dye as Bombsight, Elizabeth Posey as Private Angel, and Will Hochman as Torpedo.Vought Risingis going into production later this August. What This Means For Vought Rising
Despite taking place in the 1950s, it appears that Vought will be keeping a World War II aesthetic with their superhero team. While Soldier Boy is meant to be a twisted version of Captain America, his costume is closer to other Golden Age heroes. The domino mask is similar to characters like The Shadow or The Phantom.
Bombsight’s costume looks to be inspired by fighter pilots of the time. Private Angel has a costume that looks to be an idealized pin-up girl in a nurse’s uniform. Torpedo has a naval-themed costume, including an anchor belt buckle. His costume also shares similarities in design with the DC hero Adam Strange.
Given the look of the costumes, Vought seems to be pushing All-American ideals on the nation. As the prequel will see the company gaining power, its propaganda will likely work on the American public. According to the social media post, “these four were as American as apple pie.”
Our Take On The New Images
A key figure missing from the images is Stormfront (Aya Cash). A former supe villain inThe Boys, Klara Risinger does not noticeably age and was a part of the Nazi Party during World War II. After moving to the US, she adopted the name Klara Vought. It is also known that in 1952, Stormfront and Homelander formed the annual “Herogasm” event.
The images only add excitement for the series.Vought Risinglooks to be heavily leaning into the look and feel of the 1950s. By taking that approach, it can set itself apart fromThe Boysand make its own compelling narrative.
