A recent release by Nintendo, through the Yochien Magazine, has revealed that there will be a brand new crossover between one of the company’s most popular franchises andone of the oddest peripheralsfor their newest console. Reportedly releasing with the March 2020 issue of Yochien, Nintendo will be mixingNintendo LabowithPokemon Quest.
For those that may not rememberPokemon Quest, it is a free-to-playPokemongame with blocky,Minecraft-like graphics that released back in 2018, to some slightly underwhelming fanfare. As forNintendo Labo, some fans may recognize this as the cardboard crafting peripheral that released in the same year asQuest, however to a much more enthusiastic reception.

According to Japanese Nintendo, an unaffiliated website that reports on Nintendo news, another newLaboset will be releasing with the March 2020 issue of Yochien that featuresPokemoncharacters in the style ofPokemon Quest. Considering the block-based aesthetic ofPokemon Quest, the combination withLabo’s build-able cardboard figures is a perfect mix. Clearly is still invested in keepingLaboalive with new updates like this new crossover as well as previous releases that have brought everything from vehicles toVR toLabo.
It would appear from the promotional images that have so far been released, the newLaboset will include at least three Pokemon: Pikachu,Eevee, and Bulbasaur. While these Pokemon are coming toLabo, there’s little information on whether or not the set might have some sort of affect on the player’sPokemon Questaccount. Similarly, while the original report on Japanese Nintendo claims that thePokemon Questset is coming with the March 2020 issue of Yochien, it is yet to be seen if it this is simply an announcement in the magazine or if it is packaged with the issue itself.
Fortunately for fans of any part of thePokemonfranchise, and not justPokemon Quest, the regular characters that are crossing intoLaboshould be familiar enough to anyone who enjoys the series. Unfortunately, however, the set doesn’t seem to include the other two starters from Generation One ofPokemon, leaving at least two thirds of fans without their favorite starters. Then again,Pikachu and Eeveeare clearly popular enough additions to appease most fans of the franchise whether their favorite starters are present or not.
