Although Thor should technically be leavingGhostsin season 5, his relationship with Flower makes this storyline complicated.Jay’sGhostsseason 5 predicamentmeans the CBS sitcom will be wading into new territory with the next outing of the popular series. Until now, the show has mostly focused on the titular ghosts and their human companions.

The antics of Thor, Sass, Isaac, Hetty, Alberta, Flower, Pete, and Trevor were enough to sustain the series for five seasons, particularly when Sam and Jay’s attempts to transform the Woodstone Mansion into a B+B provided plenty of B-stories. However, whileGhostsseason 4’s guest starswere fun, the finale’s revelations opened up the show’s supernatural world.

In season 4, episode 22, “The Devil Went Down to Woodstone,” Sam discovered that Jay had hired Elias as a publicist for his struggling restaurant Mahesh months earlier. In doing so, her husband had unwittingly made a deal with the devil, and Hetty’s now-demonic former husband was looking to collect Jay’s soul as soon as possible.

Thor Should Technically Be “Sucked Off” In Ghosts Season 5

The Viking Ghost Has Done A Lot to Redeem His Soul

As longtime viewers ofGhostscan attest, this storyline was surprising for numerous reasons. For one thing, although it was implied that Elias was a demon since he had been in Hell since season 2, it was not clear that demons could take on human form and communicate with the living.

For another, this twist opened up the question of what other supernatural entities exist in the world of the series. Characters who die inGhoststypically become ghosts, but ghosts who get “Sucked off” into Heaven are never seen again.Elias’s fate implies ghosts might be able to return from Heavensince he returned from Hell.

However,Ghostsseason 5’s big revelationsmust go beyond explaining Elias’s abilities alone. The question of whether ghosts can return from Heaven is currently immaterial, as none of the show’s heroes have managed to deal with their unfinished business on Earth and ascend to the afterlife yet.

Characters like Thor have done huge amounts of personal work and improved the standing of their souls almost immeasurably, and yet they remain trapped in the mansion.

This works for the series, as it means the ensemble sitcom doesn’t need to worry about losing characters from season to season. However, within the world ofGhosts, it doesn’t make much sense. Characters like Thor have done huge amounts of personal work and improved the standing of their souls almost immeasurably, and yet they remain trapped in the mansion.

Thor might have been one of the most vicious and amoral of the ghosts during his life, but this also means he has had the biggest redemption arc since his death. He has also been around the longest, meaning he has inevitably touched the lives and afterlife of more people than the rest of the ghosts.

Thor

From what viewers have seen, Thor has done his best to let go of his villainous side and embrace decency. If any of the maincharacters ofGhostsshould be “Sucked off,”the likable Viking would be high on the list. All of his season 4 storylines centered on the importance of friendship in his afterlife and underlined this recurring thematic preoccupation.

Ghosts Season 4’s Story Set Up His Exit

Thor Almost Sold His Soul To Elias In Episode 14

From risking his afterlife to save Sass to building a lasting friendship with Alberta to helping Hetty throughout her childhood, to restoring his relationship with his son, Thor has done a lot to work on himself in Ghosts.Thor really should be the next ghost to leave, but his existing relationship with the naive hippie Flower complicates this.

In the B-plot of season 4, episode 14, ”Alexander Hamilton and the Ruffle Kerfuffle,” Thor is almost convinced to sell his soul by Elias. Fortunately, Trevor convinces him he could still save his soul, which clearly sets up Thor’s eventual redemption and subsequent exit. Trevor can only be proven correct if Thor ends up in Heaven instead of Hell.

Flower was instrumental in changing Thor from a warmongering Viking into a more sensitive soul, even though his friendship with Sass and centuries of loneliness on the mansion’s grounds also contributed to this shift.

However, it was notable that Thor didn’t mention his romance with Flower while debating the merits of selling his soul.Ghostsseason 5’s many mysteriesmean Thor might need to wait a while to get an episode in the spotlight, but it was jarring for the character to seemingly forget about his two-season relationship while considering Elias’s offer.

After all, Flower was instrumental in changing Thor from a warmongering Viking into a more sensitive soul, even though his friendship with Sass and centuries of loneliness on the mansion’s grounds also contributed to this shift. As such, Thor leaving her behind seems inescapably callous.

That said, the characters ofGhostsgenuinely believed that Flower herself was “Sucked off” when she went missing for seven episodes at the beginning of season 3. As such, Thor may have been planning an afterlife without Flower because he believed she was inevitably destined for Heaven while he was sure to end up in Hell.

Flower and Thor’s Ghosts Relationship Complicates His Season 5 Exit

The Couple Have Been Together Since Ghosts Season 2

In either case,it would be truly tragic to see Thor and Flower break up inGhostsseason 5if Thor was “Sucked off,” but it also seems like this fate is a foregone conclusion for Thor. While all ofthe best characters inGhostsdeservea happy afterlife, Thor has been around the longest and changed the most during his time in the mansion.

This might be unfair, considering he started at a unique advantage. Thor was a barbarous monster during his life, so even becoming an ordinary decent person was a huge achievement for him. That said, his willingness to risk his entire existence to save Sass in episode 18, “Smooching and Smushing,” was outright heroic in its sheer selflessness.

The show owes the couple either a breakup or a justification for why Thor hasn’t been “Sucked off” yet.

As such, now that his storylines with his son, the fellow Vikings who abandoned him, Alberta, and Hetty have all reached natural conclusions, it is time for Ghostsseason5 to explain Flower and Thor’s future. The show owes the couple either a breakup or a justification for why he hasn’t been “Sucked off” yet.

Regardless of which pathGhostsseason 5’s storyline takes, the show must make sense of this inconsistency. A Viking Marauder becoming a kind, welcoming, and open-minded 21st-century man is enough of a character shift to justify his ascent into Heaven, soGhostsseason 5 must explain Thor’s continued presence or finally say goodbye to the hero.
