The fear his fans had was that Kjellberg was shadowbanned from YouTube. A shadowban is a ban from a website that the banned users wouldn’t be able to notice at first. This usually results in the creator being able to see things as normal, but fans having trouble with accessing the creator’s content.
With worries being spread, many started to believe that the PewDiePie channel had actually been shadowbanned. However, these issues with finding the PewDiePie channel and Kjellberg’s videos have been recently fixed with it being easy to find his content once more.
In response to the rumors about the situation, the official YouTube Twitter account put out a statement claiming that the website does not shadowban channels. The statement goes further and puts out the theory that Kjellberg’s recent videos were caught by YouTube’s flagging system and was pulled from search results until it was manually reviewed. Due to theCOVID-19 pandemic, however, YouTube has stated that the review teams are far more limited than usual.
While some have been satisfied with the statement put out by YouTube, others still believe that there was some kind of shadowban that YouTube is now backpedaling on after being caught. Outside of this official statement, however, the truth of the situation may not be truly known for a long time. Due to Kjellberg’s aforementionedcontroversies under the PewDiePie name, it could be possible that representatives from YouTube didn’t want the channel to have the current place that it holds.
Kjellberg himself hasn’t put out anything accusing YouTube of shadowbanning him and has only continued to put out videos onthe PewDiePie channel.
