Development continues forPlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, the hugely popular battle royale game, and PUBG Corp. is now ready to share what its plans are for the year to come. Today PlayerUnknown himself, Brendan Greene, announced that the much anticipated 2018 development roadmap is receiving its final touches and will be shared withPlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsplayers tomorrow.
Exactly what the development roadmap will entail remains unclear. Development transparency has been one of PUBG Corp.’s greatest struggles, as the company’s interaction with theBattlegroundscommunity hasn’t scaled up with the game’s popularity. What will be PUBG Corp.’s focus in 2018, and how much does the company believe it can accomplish in a given year? If the community agrees on anything, it’s that they have no idea what’s coming next.
However, if there’s a demand within thePlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundscommunity, it’s this: more, faster. SinceBattlegroundsofficially launched in late 2017, the patches have been coming slower. Whether PUBG Corp. decides to focus on content likenew maps and crates, gameplay rebalancing, or server issues and matchmaking,Battlegroundsplayers are mostly just ready for a change on a regular schedule.
Tomorrow’s reveal of thePlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsdevelopment roadmap may prove a pivotal moment in its lifespan. The game is already facing mounting competition from within the genre, withFortnite Battle RoyalovertakingBattlegroundsin many regards. Discontent with the game is also growing, as many issues continue not to be addressed and solutions feel slow in the works, if in the works at all. Even the roadmap was delayed from February to March.
But for PUBG Corp. this is also an excellent opportunity. By putting forth a robust, bolddevelopment roadmap for 2018the company can give players a longterm promise of continued support that also serves as a contract by which players can hold the studio accountable.PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsremains remarkably successful and hopefully tomorrow’s development roadmap lives up to the expectations that popularity has created.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegroundsis available now on PC and Xbox One.
