With only a few days away fromthe highly-anticipated release of the PlayStation 5, many wonder what this new era in console gaming will bring to the future. Now, PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan recently shared his insights on everything PlayStation in a new interview, specifically on what’s in store for the future of VR.
Speaking to The Washington Post, Ryan said that it would probably take a while before VR becomes a “meaningful component of interactive entertainment.” Additionally, in the interview, Ryan said that he believes that the next step in VR technology will probably not arrive in the next year or two, but clarified that he believes that it will come at some point in the future. Although Ryan is talking about VR in general, it is interesting to see whether he is hinting thatplayers shouldn’t expect to see a new PSVR devicein the next couple of years.

However, players should remember from Ryan’s recent interview that Sony still believes in VR, especially since the PlayStation VR was able to sell 5 million units since its introduction in 2016 and turned in profits of over 2 billion dollars.Sony even went to reaffirm its commitment to VRlast August, saying that it will ensure that the PSVR will have a smooth transition from the PS4 to the PS5.
It is worth remembering that the PSVR is compatible with the PS5, but it appears that there is a catch. While the PSVR headset and the breakout box essential to connect it to the PS5 work without any issues, Sony revealed that the PSVR camera would require an adapter to connect to the next-gen console. To those unfamiliar, the camera is required to use PSVR, given that it tracks both the headset and Move controllers. Currently, the special adapter’s price is still unknown, butPSVR players can fill out an online request formto receive a free one from Sony.
