Pokemon GOfans who still have yet to fill out most of their Hoenn region Pokedex are in luck, as Niantic has announced a brand new event celebrating the Gen 3 setting. From January 15 at 1:00pm PST until January 29 at 1:00pm PST,Pokemon GOplayers will have a chance to participate in the Hoenn region event, which will be marked by a number of special features.

First and foremost, third generation Pokemon, aka Pokemon originally discovered in the Hoenn region, will appear more frequently in the wild. Players will also be able to catch more Gen 3 Pokemon from Field Research tasks, including thewater-type Pokemon Feebas. 7km eggs, the ones players can receive as gifts from otherPokemon GOtrainers around the world, will have an increased chance of hatching Gen 3 Pokemon during the event’s duration as well.

Meanwhile, players will also have a chance to catch some Gen 3 legendary Pokemon that haven’t been inPokemon GOfor awhile in the form of Kyogre and Groudon. There hasn’t been any word yet on if Rayquaza will be joining the Gen 3 legendary lineup for the event or not, but fans should find out on January 15.

Niantic is really going all out with this latestPokemon GOevent, and isn’t satisfied with just makingGen 3 Pokemonmore likely to appear in the wild as it would usually do for one of these events. On the contrary, some bonus features have also been thrown into the mix. For example, ifPokemon GOplayers evolve a Shroomish into a Breloom while the event is live, it will learn the exclusive move Grass Knot.

Furthermore, this special event will also add shiny variants for Zigzagoon and Taillow, plus it will add some new avatar items to the Style Shop. During the event,Pokemon GOplayers can use their hard-earned coins to purchase cosmetic items inspired by Team Aqua and Team Magma, who were the antagonists inPokemon RubyandSapphire.

In the future, it will be interesting to see if Niantic continues doing more fully-featured special events like this Hoenn region one.
