While previous special research in Niantic’s mobile ARGPokemon GOhas hosted the likes of Mew and Celebi, it appears thatnext-gen creature Meltanwill be getting a turn next. Alongside a new video (as seen further below), which describes ways to obtain Meltan, it was revealed its special research quest will be coming this winter.
There is a special item that attracts Meltan known as the mystery box obtainable and and can be transferred inPokemon Let’s GOandPokemon GO.It is obtained during the first transfer of a Pokemon from the mobile ARG toPokemon Let’s GO EeveeorLet’s GO Pikachu.
Furthermore, a mystery box can be obtained by sending a Pokemon to a friend’s Switch, and it’s worth mentioning that only the one who opens the box can catch a Meltan. Players can only have one mystery box at a time, so this creature’s special research may very well have something to do with either a mystery box or transferring Pokemon. Check out the video below:
As of now, very little about this creature is known, let alone its special research quest. However, it’s worth mentioning thatan evolution (or alternative form)of Meltan has been teased, so it seems possible that this special research quest could be related to the evolved form.
Nevertheless, according to Niantic:
“New Special Research quests will be coming toPokemon GOthat will let you embark on a search for the Mythical Pokémon Meltan. Look forward to this new Special Research this winter, when you may participate in various investigations with Professor Willow and catch Meltan!”
In the meantime,Pokemon GOplayers have plenty to keep them busy. For example, this month’s field research features the legendary Water-type Suicune. This also means there anumber of questsrelated to the legendary for players to complete. Of course, until Meltan becomes available, many are likely still working on Celebi’s Special research quest.
