In an interview withScreenRant’s Ash Crossan atSan Diego Comic-Con, several creators spoke about a potential crossover between the two shows. While they do not promise a “mix-‘em-up episode” in the foreseeable future, they do expect several elements to exist in both shows. Check out their responses below:

Sam Riegel: There’s some crossover elements. You’ll see people maybe a little bit crossing over, factions, organizations. They travel to the same places in the world, but there’s not really a mix-‘em-up episode, or anything like a Scooby-Doo plus the Harlem Globetrotters.

Ashley Johnson: Not yet.

Liam O’Brien: We showed a big one today when we showed the Vox Machina clip today, where the team is visiting the Cobalt Soul, which is a huge element of campaign 2. And suddenly, the campaign 1 team was dipping their toes into that area. Subtle threats.

What This Means For Vox Machina And The Mighty Nein

The Story Should Be Faithful To The Campaign

The original Mighty Nein D&D campaign made an effort to separate itself fromVox Machina. Matt Mercer, who played Lord Sylas Briarwood, Orthax, and Umbrasyl, served as the Dungeon Master and intentionallydirected the cast to avoid connecting their charactersto the previous story. While they did feature some crossovers through the Cobalt Soul, they were largely distinct.

…some of the Mighty Nein’s main members were not even born when Percy and his crew were roaming Tal’Dorei.

That was especially notable when considering the timeline jump. WhilemanyVox Machinacharacterscould conceivably appear inTheMighty Nein, the sequel spinoff takes place 25 years after the original show. That gap is so extensive that some of the Mighty Nein’s main members were not even born when Percy and his crew were roaming Tal’Dorei.

The shows alsotake place on different continents. Vox Machina’s focus has always been on Tal’Dorei, featuring rare incursions into other territories, including the Feywild. The Mighty Nein, by contrast, remain largely restricted to the continent of Wildemount, rarely visiting other locations. These sharp differences make any true crossover difficult until far later in each campaign.

Our Take On Vox Machina’s Potential Crossover

It Is Somewhat Inevitable

Restricting potential crossovers between the shows is the right decision, no matter how disappointing it may be to anyone looking to see more from the Vox Machina crew. The Mighty Nein will be an all-new cast of heroes, and audiences will need time to connect with them. Reintroducing Vox Machina would simply distract from the new characters.

Crossovers are somewhat inevitable and did feature in the campaigns, but they came late in the second campaign. After the Mighty Nein is better established, it will likely be welcome. Unfortunately, anyone looking to seeThe Legend of Vox Machinacrossover withThe Mighty Neinwill need to wait for years, as these new heroes establish themselves.
