Thirty-plus years ago, the debut of OG Green Ranger Tommy Oliver changed the trajectory of thePower Rangersfranchise. Now,Boom! Whether that’s a good or bad thing remains TBD. However, barring a significant swerve, the big reveal seems to have been given away by the issue’s variant covers. Rita Repulsa Is The Prime Green Ranger, In A Gamechanging Move For The Series

Fans Are Still Wrapping Their Heads Around The Implications

Curiously, the Carlini variant features Rita, wearing the Green Ranger armor, sitting on a makeshift throne that is made out of Green Ranger helmets, including recognizable designs fromdifferent incarnations ofPower Rangersover the years. This suggests she may take on an antagonist role, akin toTommy Oliver’s original role.

Tommy was famously brainwashed by Rita Repulsa. It seems this version of the space witch might do her own dirty work. Further, the presence of recognizable Green Ranger helmet designs could simply be an Easter Egg for the cover, or it could be a portent of something greater. After all, Boom! Studios' previousPower Rangersseries involved the Multiverse substantially.

Some fans have taken this as a hint that the rebootedPrimecontinuity could tie back intothe largerRangersMultiverse, though that remains speculative for now. In any case, the franchise has a new Green Ranger, and the possibilities for Rita Repulsa in the role promise to take this novel take onPower Rangersto the next level.

Power Rangers Prime#9will be available June 04, 2025 from Boom! Studios.
