Resident Evil 2is just days away from its January 25 release date, common knowledge given Capcom’s relentless marketing over recent weeks. With just two days left until launch, there’s not much left to cover. So instead of a new announcement, Capcom’s decided to celebrate the upcoming release ofResident Evil 2with a launch trailer. The countdown to Raccoon City’s outbreak is approaching its bloody conclusion.
The 3-minute long launch trailer forResident Evil 2is a perfect introduction to the game for those who may be unfamiliar with it. It also provides a great place to start for those who have been following the game’s development for some time and for those who playedResident Evil 2’sdemo. It introduces main characters Leon and Claire, as well as some supporting cast members including Sherry, Ada, and William, but doesn’t go so far as spoiling any significant plot point.
That said, the trailer does show some ofResident Evil 2’s more notable villains, which absolutely could be considered a spoiler for new players. For returning players, however, seeing some of these familiar faces in all their reworked visual glory is worth the light spoilers.
One final thing that theResident Evil 2launch trailer does in a unique way is introduce the game’s extra modes and post-launch content. Rather than just drop links at the end of the trailer, it instead provides a faux-menu as if viewers are watching the game be played. In the “Extra” menu, both “The 4th Survivor” and “The Tofu Survivor” modes are teased, as is theGhost Survivors DLC.
All three Survivor modes have previously been teased by Capcom. The 4th Survivor, starring Hunk, and The Tofu Survivor will be available as part of the base game. Ghost Survivors will be released as free DLC. Exactly how players will unlock and access these modes is unclear. But with the game already havingreviewsavailable and a full launch just days away, more information should be on-hand soon.
Resident Evil 2releases January 25 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
