Warning: This article contains spoilers forRick and Mortyseason 8, episode 9.
Morty, Jr.’s surprise return inRick and Mortyseason 8 seems to confirm just how similar the Parmesan Dimension is to the Smith family’s last universe. InRick and Mortyseason 8, episode 9, “Morty Daddy,”Morty, Jr. — the half-Gazorpian son that Morty conceived with an alien sex robot — comes back into the foldas he wants to meet his mother.
Morty, Jr. wrote a bitter tell-all memoir about how his dad raised him, so Morty doesn’t speak to him all that often. But as he approaches death (due to the much shorter lifespan of Gazorpians), Morty, Jr. wants to meet his mother. So, Morty reluctantly takes him to Rick’s trash moon to see if they can find the discarded robot.
But here’s the thing:Morty, Jr. was born in season 1, episode 7, “Raising Gazorpazorp.” While this was after Rick and Morty’s first on-screen move to a new reality, the entire family has since moved to the Parmesan Dimension. The events of “Raising Gazorpazorp” seem to have also happened in the Parmesan Dimension, so does that mean everything happened there?
Morty, Jr.’s Return Seems To Confirm That Rick & Morty’s Parmesan Dimension Is Almost Exactly The Same As The Last One
Most Of The Same Events Happened, They Just Pronounce “Parmesan” Differently
When Rick moved the family to the Parmesan Dimension, he said that it was very similar to their previous universe except everyone pronounces “parmesan” differently, more like “parmee-sian.” This was even mentioned byJerry in last week’sRick and Mortyepisodewhen he hoped that a kindly Rick could search for universes by keyword.
“Morty Daddy” seems to suggest that literally everything in the Parmesan Dimension is the same except for the “parmesan” thing. If the Morty, Jr. storyline played out exactly the same in this universe — right down to the tell-all memoir about Morty’s shaky parenting — thenperhaps the “parmesan” pronunciation is really the only difference and everything else is the same.
If Morty, Jr. Can Return, That Means Other Characters Can Too
More Sequel Episodes Could Follow
Rick moved the family to the Parmesan Dimension in the season 6 premiere, “Solaricks,” after Jerry accidentally unleashed Mr. Frundles in Dimension C-131. But if the backstory is the same in both universes and the events of all the previous episodes happened in both universes, then everything before then is still fair game for a sequel episode like “Morty Daddy.”
Rick and Mortyairs new episodes on Adult Swim every Sunday.
There are certain storylines that couldn’t have happened in the Parmesan Dimension.Anything involving the Citadel or the Galactic Federation, for example, was very specific to Rick C-137.But standalone storylines just confined to the family, like the battle against the Memory Parasites, probably still happened there. That meanswe could revisit Planetinaor Mr. Nimbus inRick and Morty’s future.
