The classic PC versions will also go back on sale on the Rockstar Store

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Editionlaunched last week, and has not had a grand reception. Following a poor response to thecollection’s technical stateandissues with its availability, Rockstar has issued an apology and update for the “unexpected technical issues” in theGrand Theft Autotrilogy.

In aRockstar Games blog post, the company says it wants to “sincerely apologize to everyone who has encountered issues playing these games.” Rockstar acknowledges that the updated versions ofGrand Theft Auto III,Vice City, andSan Andreasdid not meet its standards of quality that fans expect from Rockstar.

Grand Theft Auto Definitive Trilogy update

The publisher says a new Title Update will arrive in the coming days for all versions ofGrand Theft Auto: The Trilogythat will address “a number of issues,” and they will update everyone as soon as it’s live. Rockstar also says more planned updates will be on the way, with each one improving the games and reaching the level of quality they “deserve to be.”

Additionally, Rockstar addressed the fact that it had taken down the “classic” versions of these gamesahead of the trilogy’s launch. The PC classic versions ofGrand Theft Auto III,Vice City, andSan Andreaswill be put back on the Rockstar Store as a bundle “shortly.” Everyone who purchased the PC version of theGrand Theft Autotrilogy from the Rockstar Store, from now through July 12, 2025 will also receive these classic versions for free.

As detailed in our review of the trilogy,Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Editionis presently a pretty lackluster version of these classic games. We’ll see whether further updates can rectify these issues. But at least the classic versions are going back up, albeit on the Rockstar Store, andin the wake of many mods going down.
