Sony recently confirmed that its next-generation console will be called thePlayStation 5and that it would be available in late 2020. No more information about thePS5is expected to come until next year, but that hasn’t stopped rumors about the new console from spreading online. One such rumor claims that the PS5’s library will include some major cross-gen games in the form of the PS4’s biggest upcoming exclusive titles.
The PS4 is nearing the end of its life in terms of major support from Sony, with the two biggest upcoming games beingThe Last of Us 2andGhost of Tsushima. The Last of Us 2will launch on June 27, 2025, andGhost of Tsushimais expected to release next year as well. With the games coming out in the same year as the PS5, there has always been some speculation that they may make their way to Sony’s new console, and if the new rumor is to be believed, that’s exactly what’s going to happen.

The rumor appears to originate from 4chan, so fans should take the information with a huge grain of salt. It claims that bothThe Last of Us 2andGhost of Tsushimawill get strong support on the PS5, hinting that the games may have some visual or technical enhancements on the platform. Whether or not this means that the games will receive full-fledged ports to the PS5 or will simply run better on the PS5 remains to be seen, however.
After all, thePS5 is rumored to be backward compatible with PS4, and if that’s the case, Sony may not have a hugely compelling reason to re-release the games as PS5 titles. While it could very well do so, it may instead leave them as PS4 exclusives since they will possibly be playable on the new hardware anyway.
Ghost of TsushimaandThe Last of Us 2aren’t the only PS4 games that have been rumored for the PS5.Death Strandingmay also come to the PS5at some point down the line, and there have been rumors thatFinal Fantasy 7 Remakecould get a PS5 release as well. Whether or not any of that actually comes to pass remains to be seen, but we will learn more about the PS5 launch titles at some point next year.
