The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remasteredis easily one of 2025’s best games, and the year isn’t even over yet. It is a completely transformative remaster, one that many consider to be more of a remake, and rightfully so. Its changes are many and impressive, allowing it to bring to life one of gaming’s greatest RPGs. No longer isOblivionburied beneath the weight of its outdated visuals, thanks to the power of UE5 and developer Virtuos.
However, as much asOblivion Remasteredtruly is one of thebest remasters of 2025, there is another RPG that, after an excruciatingly long wait, is also getting a remaster this year. While perhaps not as transformative, this hugely underrated RPG is deserving of all of our attention, which is whyI am so pleased it is getting the remaster treatment it has always deserved.
The Underrated RPG Sacred 2 Is Getting A Remaster
It Was Originally Released In 2008
Sacred 2, an isometric RPG that was heavily inspired by the iconicDiabloseries, is, understandably so, not considered one of thebest RPGs ever made. However, I strongly believe that to be a huge oversight, as, while not perfect,Sacred 2is a ridiculous amount of fun, even today. Released back in 2008,Sacred 2is a huge, sprawling RPG packed with more quests than you’ll know what to do with, and a vast and varied world.
It’s an entirely seamless open-world experience, too, with every interior and exterior loaded at once, ensuring you never have to pause the experience for even a second. Honestly, that blew me away as a child, and still impresses me to this day. Its vibrant vistas, bafflingly large roster of enemies, and beautiful towns were all a joy to experience, especially in co-op.
I remember playing the original endlessly on my Xbox 360 as a child, and then desperately hoping all these years later it would get ported to modern consoles. Fortunately, THQ Nordic was apparently listening and announced the remaster.
It is launching in Q4 2025 forSteam, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, and improves the visuals, makes it easier to play online, adds several much-needed fixes, and tweaks combatto make it more responsive. Additionally, every piece of DLC and every update is bundled in, too, making it the definitive experience.
Sacred 2 Is Absolutely Worth Playing
It Is One Of The Best Diablo Clones Out There
I still frequently playSacred 2in 2025, not just because it is wonderfully nostalgic for me, but also because it is an excellent RPG. The varied classes, unique story paths for each one, the differing bonuses you get from each god, and the choice between being good or evil all coalesce with every other incredible element to make a remarkably enjoyable RPG experience. Additionally, despite borrowing from a range of inspirations,Sacred 2still feels effortlessly unique.
While the changes between the original game andSacred 2 Remasteraren’t as dramatic asOblivion Remastered’smajor changes, they’ll be enough to make it a more modern experience.UnlikeOblivion,Sacred 2’svisuals have aged relatively well, at least in my opinion, thanks, in large part, to the vibrant art direction and stunning world design.
If you’ve been looking for a huge RPG to play alone or with friends, then I strongly implore you to check outSacred 2 Remaster. It may not be the monumental release thatOblivion Remasteredwas for so many, thanks to its largely unknown status, but it is nevertheless a huge deal for me, and a massive win for RPG fans everywhere.
