Several months ago,Saints Rowthe Thirddirector Scott Phillipsstated that he believed it to be high time for the open-world action-adventure series to make a comeback, saying that a resurgence of the franchise would be good since “it’s been quite a few years”. While no new games have been announced yet, it has been confirmed that aSaints Rowmovie is on the way withStraight Outta ComptonandThe Fate of the Furiousdirector F. Gary Gray attached to helm the project.

As of now, there’s no word just yet in regards to what the forthcomingSaints Rowfilm will be about, how closely it will hew to the original plots of the games, or if any of the video game franchise’s most noteworthy characters will make appearances in the movie. According to Deadline, theSaints Rowmotion picture is going to be a co-production between Fenix Studios, Koch Media (which is owned by THQ Nordic, interestingly enough), and Occupant Entertainment.

It has been noted in theSaints Rowmovie’s announcement that Gray is “developing to direct”, which indicates that he’s working with the film’s writer, Greg Russo, on the early stages of the forthcoming film’s development process. As it so happens, Russo is also scripting theMortal Kombatmovie rebootat Warner Bros.

For those unaware, Gray has also worked on other video game projects prior to his involvement with theSaints Rowmovie, with theMen in Black: Internationaldirector having put out anAssassin’s Creed Syndicateanimated short movie. So, on top of his feature length films, Gray has history adapting video game properties to the medium of cinema.

With theSaints Rowmovie officially announced, it will be interesting to see just what the film will be able to bring to the table as far as its status as a feature length film adaptation of a video game series is concerned. There had once beenaSaints Rowmovie project that got cancelled, so fans of video game flicks can only hope this one goes the distance.
