Sea of Thievesmay have received a lackluster reception from the gaming community, but this does not mean thatMicrosofthas given up on the title. Microsoft Corporate Vice President of Gaming, Mike Ybarra, recently showed his enthusiasm for the title by issuing the Xbox community with an in-game challenge.
In a tweet posted on Sunday, Ybarra dared theSea of Thievescommunity to sink his ship, even offering up the prize of a 12-month Xbox Live subscription to the players who are able to accomplish the task. As the tweet reads, it seems the prize extends to all of the players involved in sinking Ybarra’s ship.
Members of theSea of Thievescommunity have taken notice of Ybarra’s challenge, with some even responding with theme appropriate gifs and memes. It is important to note that at this point no time limit has been provided in which to complete the challenge.
Released last week,Sea of Thieveswas not received as well as Microsoft may have hoped. Reviewers largely noted that while the game is able to provide players with amazing visuals and experience for the first few hours of gameplay, it is severely lacking in content. The game also suffered from a rather shaky launch after some players were unable to play the game as the title hadissues with its servers, as they struggled to handle the number of players attempting to load up.
While it is debatable whether Ybarra’s challenge will be enough to get any new players to pick up the game, it does demonstrate that key members Microsoft’s Xbox division are excited about the title. At the very least, Ybarra’s tweet may convince some players who already own the game to attempt take down his ship, and in doing so, perhaps, leave said players with positive in-game experiences. Whether or not public perception relating toSea of Thievesultimately will change is unknown, but it ought to be interesting to see whether anybody is actually able to fulfill Ybarra’s challenge.
Sea of Thievesis available now for PC and Xbox One.
