ManyTomb Raiderfans agree that the latest game in the franchise,Shadow of the Tomb Raider, is one of Lara Croft’s most exciting adventures to date, as the game has generally received manypositive reviewsup to now. After the game went on sale on Steam last week though, players who bought the game on PC were very unhappy and a whole lot of negative reviews of the game on Steam started rolling in.
The dissatisfaction revolves around the fact that many players pre-orderedShadow of the Tomb Raideror bought it during the week of launch at full price, and only a month after the game’s release, it was up for grabs at a steep 34% discount on Steam. Out of more than 600 reviews of the game on Steam, almost two thirds of those are negative, and the main complaint seems to be about the sale.
Most of the reviews do not seem concerned at all about whether the game is any good or not, as many people generally felt thatShadow of the Tomb Raideris a good game and a worthy successor to previous Tomb Raider games. In fact, many reviews do not even comment on the quality orgameplay of the game. One reviewer simply commented that they “feel like a fool to have pre-ordered,” and another negative review reads: “Game is good btw…but never pre-ordering a Square Enix game ever again.”
The fans' frustration is understandable, as the game at full price is not cheap either, where some people paid up to $89.99 for the Croft Edition ofShadow of the Tomb Raider. For those who would still like to grab the base game for $39.59 on PC, they should head over to Steam as soon as possible, as the sale ends today. Occurrences like these definitely have an impact on gamers' trust in developers though, as many players may reconsider before pre-ordering games or buying them at launch in future.
Shadow of the Tomb Raideris available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
