There may be gamers out there who are fans of theShin Megami Tenseiseries and not even know it. If gamers have played thePersonaseries orTokyo Mirage Sessions, then they’ve played theShin Megami Tenseiseries and would likely appreciateShin Megami Tensei 3 HDand the new trailer that Atlus just dropped.
The trailer doesn’t get too specific as to the plot of the game, but it does show off some elements fans of eitherShin Megami TenseiandPersonawill recognize, such as the various demons. What thePersonaseries calls personas, theShin Megami Tenseiseries calls demons. While some creatures get redesigns from game to game, there are a lot of them that look the same inPersonathat they do inShin MegamiTensei. For example, the trailer shows both Beezlebub and Forneus who have thesame appearance as they do inPersona 5.

What the trailer does indicate about the story has to do with the main character, the demi-fiend, and the destruction of the world. A central theme in allthe mainShin Megami Tenseigamesis chaos vs order, typically with forces representing the Judeo-Christian version of Lucifer representing chaos and the forces of God representing order.
The player will be able to decide which side of this spectrum they will want to align themselves with. Therefore, mainlineShin Megami Tenseigames have different valid endings, unlikePersonawhich typically has goodand bad endings.
Regardless, of the plot differences, players can still expect to collect a wide variety of different creatures and take them into battle. Exploiting elemental weaknesses is still a thing that needs to be taken into account as well.Persona 5players will be familiar with the method of recruiting demons as the persona recruitment feature from that game was taken from the mainline games.
Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne HD Remasterwill release on PC, Switch, and PS4 on May 25th, 2021.
