Two of SNK’s coolest old-school fighters,Real Bout Fatal Furyand its sequel,The Newcomersare being re-released today on modern platforms by retro-enthusiasts Hamster, as part of their ongoing Neo Geo ACA range.
Which game you’re getting, and if you’ll see it at all, is unfortunately oddly specific. The originalReal Boutlands on Nintendo Switch worldwide today, withReal Bout 2coming to the Xbox One. The latter isalsolisted for PS4, but, according to Hamster’s cumbersome website, may only be available on the Japanese PSN store.
The 1995 release ofReal Boutsaw the series step up to meet the tough competion presented by other fighters in the mid-’90s. It’s 1998 sequel,The Newcomers, pushed the Neo Geo software to new limits, and is arguably second only toGarou: Mark of the Wolvesas the finest fighter in theFatal Furyseries.RB2also features the debut of boxer Rick Strowd and the ever-hungry Xiangfei.
