Several months ago,David Hayter, the original voice actor for Solid Snake in Konami’sMetal Gear Solidfranchise, reprised his role in a tribute video to commemorate the 31st anniversary of the long-running stealth-action series. Now, Hayter has decided to team up with Cam Clarke, the voice of the firstMGSgame’s antagonist Liquid Snake, to perform a special rendition of the much-beloved “The Night Before Christmas”.
As seen in the video below, Clarke and Hayter briefly acknowledge Solid Snake and Liquid Snake’s kinship as twin brothers before launching into theirMetal Gear Solid-themed version of the Christmas poem, calling it, “The Night Before Metal Gear”. While the pace and cadence of the piece remains the same–save for the fun bits of banter peppered in throughout–the voice actors' new take on the holiday classic includes references to Mother Base, FOXHOUND, The End, and more.
For those unaware, Hayter’s last instance of playing Solid Snake in theMetal Gear Solidgames occurred withMetal Gear Solid: Peace Walkerfor the PlayStation Portable, and while the character is credited as “Snake,” it’s technically the role of Big Boss. Later on, Hideo Kojima decided to go with actorKiefer Sutherlandfor the role of the protagonist inMetal Gear Solid 5: Ground ZerosandThe Phantom Pain, but the decision wasn’t without controversy, as many fans view Hayter as de facto Solid Snake.
At any rate,Metal Gear Solidfans can still enjoy Hayter’s continued work as the character in the contemporary era, as he’s credited as the voice of Snake in the latest entry of Nintendo’s crossover fighting game series,Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Not to mention, the Canadian-American actor’s even listed as Solid Snake Bomber and Naked Snake Bomber inSuper Bomberman R.
