WhenSpelunky 2first arrived on the PS4, it came with the ability to play with others online. That feature was unfortunatelydelayed fromSpelunky 2’s PC launch, and nearly two months later, players are still waiting, but they shouldn’t have to wait much longer. According to the latest update from developer BlitWorks, online play is expected to be ready to go before the end of the year.

Despite therave reviews the PS4 version received, there were enough issues with its online play to encourage BlitWorks to hold off on adding it to the PC version. Elaborating on this further in a Steam post today, the developer explained that the problem has proved to be more severe than initially expected, requiring “deeper changes of the internal game logic and the rollback” to address.

Since these changes affect both versions of the game, BlitWorks has been taking its time to make sure everything has been properly tested before releasing it onto PC. The good news, though, is that it seems to be almost done. The developer confirmed that it has completed two of the three major improvements it had planned forSpelunky 2, and as such the hope is that it will be able to get online support added to the PC version by early December.

All of this is on top of the bug fixes, new options, andother updates BlitWorks has been adding toSpelunky 2’s offline game, so it makes sense that it might have a tough time getting online co-op fixed right away. “Not only isSpelunky 2a more complex game than1by magnitudes, but its launch was also much bigger, which means that there’s been a LOT of feedback!” it wrote. “It’s something we’re really grateful for and we feel like the best way to show that is to listen thoughtfully and patch steadily.”
