Spider-Man Is a Rebel Hero in the Mutant Future

The X-Virus Has Changed Everything

In today’sX-Men: Age of Revelation #0(from Jed MacKay and Humberto Ramos), fans learn how Revelation was corrupted afterreplacing Cyclops as the X-Men’s leader. One of the major events was the villainous 3K group releasing the X-Virus.This new disease has a huge fatality rate, but those who survive it are transformed from human to mutant. The X-Virus also has a terraforming effect, rendering areas where it spreads uninhabitable for humans.

It seems that inRadioactive Spider-Man, Peter will continue fighting to stop New York becoming part of Revelation’s territory, using radiation to stop the virus killing him. However, this will lead to some extreme transformations, withSpidey growing extra arms reminiscent of his former transformation into the Man-Spider(below.) Peter appears to be using his scientific genius to control the radiation in his body via cybernetic implants, with one in the shape of his spider logo.

While Spider-Man’s powers have amystic aspect tied into the Spider-Verse, they’re also the result of radioactivity rewriting his genetic code. This means that there are aspects of Spidey’s powers which can potentially harm him and others. In the Age of Revelation, it appears the fate of humanity has gotten dire enough that Peter will throw caution to the wind and embrace his radioactive nature, all to keep ahold of his humanity and keep fighting for the city he loves.

Age of Revelationis ushering in a new era of Marvel lore, but whileSpider-Man’sbody might be undergoing huge changes, Peter Parker’s love for his hometown and willingness to sacrifice himself remain as intact as ever.
