Nintendo is preparing for a verySplatoon 2holiday season, announcing several forthcoming updates for theNintendo Switchmultiplayer shooter. Small updates have continued to roll out forSplatoon 2since its launch in July, adding new weapons and outfits to the game as well as new events. These new holiday updates are much larger than those prior, however. And better yet, they start releasing this week.

Starting with an update on November 23, Nintendo will be adding a ton of new content toSplatoon 2over the coming months. That content includes over 160 new items, such as weapons and gear, new hairstyles, new maps, and an all-new game mode, too. November 23’s update will feature a new Salmon Run stage, gear, and hairstyles. New battle stages, like the MakoMart supermarket, will start rolling out on November 25.

Following the November update, another big patch will hit in mid-December. This patch will feature an all-new game mode named Clam Blitz. Clam Blitz tasks players with collecting golden clams from around the map and then escorting them to a basket near the enemy’s base. Other planned content to be added includes new Amiibo functionality, raising the level cap to 99, and prestiging.

Splatoon 2’s big upcoming patches feature a huge amount of content just in time for both the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday breaks. And best of all, all updates are entirely free just like those prior. For those who have taken a break fromSplatoon 2in recent months, this is a great opportunity to return and experience a fresh take on the multiplayer shooter.

With all of this new content, it’s tough to argue thatSplatoon 2doesn’t deserve to be included in the conversation regarding the best launch year games for Nintendo Switch. While it may beovershadowed bySuper Mario OdysseyandThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,Splatoon 2fits into that third position snugly. For holiday shoppers, you’d be remiss to let this game pass you by.
