DICE-developed multiplayer shooterStar Wars Battlefrontreceives a new offline game mode in the form of Skirmish, alongside a number of other changes.

It’s fair to say that offlineStar Wars Battlefrontplayers may have found little to keep them occupied. The game very much has a focus on multiplayer, so much so that John Boyega has even decried the game’slack of single player story mode. Thankfully, offline players did have something to look forward to when theoffline Skirmish modewas revealed, and the new game mode has promptly arrived.

Skirmish comes courtesy of a new patch forStar Wars Battlefront, which has appeared today. The new mode allows for players to take part in split-screen co-op, as well as single player against bots, for both Fighter Squadron and Walker Assault game modes.

This new Skirmish mode is not the only addition toStar Wars Battlefrontwith this new patch, either. Alongside Skirmish, DICE has also made a number of minor changes to the way the game works, including fixes for weapons and removing certain bugs. Meanwhile, a number of Heroes have also seen a tweak, including Lando, Dengar, and Boba Fett.

AlthoughStar Wars Battlefrontwas clearly designed with a multiplayer focus in mind, this vision was perhaps a little enforced. EA Studios boss Patrick Soderlund has confirmed thatStar Wars Battlefrontwas developed with a particular goal: making sure that the game’s releasealigned with the launch ofEpisode VII: The Force Awakens. Because of this, a greater depth of gameplay appears to have been pushed aside in favor of making sure that the game that released was of as high a level of polish as possible.

Making offline players happy is no doubt in DICE and EA’s best interests, and could perhaps rekindle some of theStar Wars Battlefrontplayer base. The title has seen a tremendous drop-off in players, so much so that the game is being roundly beaten in daily users byBattlefield 4. Indeed,Battlefield 4has 50% more daily players thanStar Wars Battlefront.
