Warning! This article contains very minor spoilers for Andor season 2, episodes 4-6.BeforeAndorseason 2, episode 4 begins, the show reveals that a year has passed since episode 3, causing many to wonder what bigStar Warsevents have taken place in between. The story of episode 1 already picked up a year after theending ofAndorseason 1, with each three-episode block of season 2 moving the timeline forward by another year. This was the desired model by showrunner and writer Tony Gilroy, who wantedAndorseason 2’s timelineto blend seamlessly into the opening moments ofRogue One: A Star Wars Story.
With this timing format in mind,Andorseason 2, episode 4 begins in 3 BBY (Before the Battle of Yavin). At this point in theStar Warstimeline, three more years of the Empire’s outright reign take place before the Rebel Alliance wins their first major victory at the Battle of Scarif and then the Battle of Yavin. WhereAndorseason 2 is concerned though, these events are still a ways off. Therefore, it is worth exploring what exactly happened in the year that elapsed off-screen between episode 3 and episode 4, both toAndorseason 2’s charactersand regarding theStar Warsgalaxy at large.
6The Empire Officially Brings TIE Interceptors Into Action
Possibly As A Result Of Cassian’s Rebellious Actions
One event that takes place between 4 and 3 BBY in theStar Warsgalaxy is the debut of the TIE Interceptors. TIE Interceptors are simply improved versions of TIE Fighters that fly faster and feature more advanced weaponry. InStar Warscanon, the Empire introduced Interceptors to the field in 3 BBY in an attempt to quell the building efforts ofStar Wars’Rebel Alliance, despite the latter organization not being fully official until a year later.
What makes this event interesting in relation toAndorseason 2 is that the TIE Interceptor’s debut could link to episode 1 of the show. In this episode, Cassian was shown stealing a prototype version ofStar Wars’TIE Avenger ship, an even more advanced TIE model. Given that Cassian stole the prototype, it is likely that the Empire’s production on the TIE Avengers stalled, thus leading to the development of TIE Interceptors and their debut in the year betweenAndorseason 2, episodes 3 and 4.
5Leia Officially Becomes Alderaan’s Princess, Begins Working At The Senate, & Is Involved In The Rebel Alliance
A Vital Star Wars Figure Becomes Even More Important
Another major event that takes place in the widerStar Warsgalaxy betweenAndorseason 2, episodes 3 and 4 concerns Leia Organa. The bookLeia: Princess of Alderaantakes place during 3 BBY and marks a major turning point in Leia’s life by inducting her into the Senate and the Rebel Alliance.Leia discovers the work that her father, Bail, is doing and ends the book by being directly involved, leading to her appearance in the likes ofStar Wars Rebels, Rogue One,and, of course, the originalStar Warstrilogy.
Leia plays an important role in securing the Death Star plans inRogue One, something she never would have been able to do if her life had not changed in 3 BBY…
This ties toAndoras Leia interacts with Mon Mothma at points in this story. This means that Mon and Leia are now aware of one another by the time ofAndorseason 2, episode 4. Moreover, Leia plays an important role in securing the Death Star plans inRogue One, something she never would have been able to do if her life had not changed in 3 BBY.
4Star Wars Rebels Season 2 Takes Place In 3 BBY
Another Rebel Group Continues Pushing Back Against The Empire
WhileStar Wars Rebelsis a very different show toAndor, the two somewhat go hand-in-hand. Both are about how the fires of rebellion began burning across the galaxy in the lead-up to the Battle of Yavin. In betweenAndorseason 2, episodes 3 and 4, the war took a big turning point for the crew ofStar Wars Rebels.
Linking to the aforementioned point about Leia Organa,Star Wars Rebelsseason 2 features the character aiding the members of Phoenix Squadron. After that, the brewing rebellion across the galaxy shown inAndoris also shown inRebels, with the crew helping the people of Ryloth fight back against the Empire. In theseason 2 finale ofStar Wars Rebels, the crew discovers that Maul is alive, with both parties searching for the key to defeating the Empire. If anything, this loosely ties the show toAndorby highlighting that it is not only the Rebel Alliance who wishes to see the Empire defeated.
3Syril Karn Begins Working On Ghorman
Setting The Stage For His Involvement In Andor Season 2, Act 2
InAndorseason 2, episode 3, the relationship between Dedra Meero and Syril Karn was outlined.Andorseason 2, episode 4 gives Syril a much more active storyline, with the installment revealing that he received a transfer to Ghorman in the year between both arcs.Syril works in the Ghorman branch of the Imperial Bureau of Standards and feigns support for the local rebel group, the Ghorman Front.
In the year betweenAndorseason 2, episodes 3 and 4, Syril agreed to move there to further Dedra’s work. Dedra, as part of Krennic’s secret task force to ensure Ghorman’s occupation for the mining of a mineral that aids in the construction of the Death Star, is seeking to provoke Ghorman rebels. As revealed inAndorseason 2, episodes 5 and 6,Syril was placed on Ghorman as a plant to feed Dedra information, with the specifics of this plan taking place in the year time gap.
2Cassian Andor & Bix Caleen Begin Living On Coruscant
Under The Empire’s Nose
Theending ofAndorseason 2, episode 3was suitably heartbreaking for Bix and Cassian. Both lost their good friend, Brasso, with the former having to endure an attempted sexual assault by an Imperial officer. That is not to mention Bix’s PTSD over being tortured by Dr. Gorst, which carries over intoAndorseason 2, act 2. As a means of hiding from Imperials once more, the duo places themselves under the Empire’s nose on the planet of Coruscant.
This move happened betweenAndorseason 2, episodes 3 and 4, with Luthen likely placing the two there to keep them hidden. Moreover, Luthen can regularly convene with Cassian when both are on Coruscant, sending him out on missions. One hint is given to a storyline that seemingly happened in the time skip, withBix hinting that Cassian unnecessarily killed a man to protect her. This indicates that their relationship is not on the strongest of footing and that Cassian was more protective over Bix in the year time jump.
1Wilmon Is Sent To Work With Saw Gerrera
Wilmon Learns From A Rebellious Extremist
The final thing that happened betweenAndorseason 2, episodes 3 and 4 concerns Wilmon. Where Cassian and Bix were sent to Coruscant, Wilmon found himself on D’Qar with Saw Gerrera. This leads to a subplot involving Wilmon and Saw that takes place later in the arc. Beyond being a neat Easter egg to theStar Warssequel trilogy, it reveals that Saw, Luthen, and Wilmon had some connections betweenAndorseason 2’s first two acts.
