With a big reveal set for this Monday, EA has just dropped new key art for its latestStar Warsgame, titledStar Wars: Squadrons. Hot off the success ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, rumors of a new game in the works have been circling the internet with many industry insiders dropping hints. Initially known as Project Maverick, the game was originally leaked via an uploaded image on the Xbox storeearlier this month.
Star Wars: Squadronswas officially announced on EA’s twitter following the leak with indication that the full reveal would be taking place later on.The newly released key art has a majorTop Guninfluence with one focusing on an X-wing and the other a TIE-fighter. The new artwork show their respective pilots entering the cockpits with the tagline PILOTS WANTED. Both images have an 80s aesthetic set in dusk with a sunset sky and a view of space in the background. This follows theoriginal leaked image that also had pilots, star ships and command shipsfrom both the Empire and Rebels ready to do battle.

Little is known about the game but it has been revealed there will be a single player campaign with a heavy focus on multiplayer combat. TheStar Warslicensehas had a history of space combat gamesin the past from the originalX-wingfor PC, theRogue Squadronseries for Nintendo consoles, and recently EA’s take on theBattlefrontfranchise.Star Warsfans have been chomping at the bit for information on the new game as EA has seen a major turnaround regarding reception of its output of games.
Star Wars Battlefront 2hasseen a huge resurgence with major changes being made to the gamesince its initial unveiling. Hampered by loot box issues and poor handling of unlocks, EA changed its tune with the game, making it easier for players to unlock and customize their favorite ships and characters.Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderwas praised for its focus on a single player story and engaging Souls-like combat, andwas successful enough for EA to announce a sequel.
Star Wars: Squadronsis expected to release Q4 of 2020 on current gen consoles.
