Saturday, Rian Johnson, the director forStar Wars: The Last Jedi, took to Twitter to throw shade at theStar Warsfans who have been very vocal about their distaste for his film.

Johnson used aPokemon GOscreenshot of a shadow Grimer named “Discourse.” This is his shot at fans who have repeatedly criticized his telling ofStar Wars.

Johnson has been criticized heavily forStar Wars:The Last Jediand his overall telling ofStar Warsand his handling of the character Luke Skywalker. Many fans were not pleased and started a petition to have the film removed from the officialStar Warscanon. Even the main actors of the film have gone to criticize him and go so far as to say that it was not “legitStar Wars” even though the film performed well when it was released in theaters. These events occurring after the release ofThe Last Jediand more occurring near the release of the newestStar WarsinstallmentStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalkerprompted Johnson to lash out in this new tweet.

Johnson has been going back and forth on Twitter since the release ofThe Last Jediwith fans who were angry about how he treated the film and the franchise as a whole. This vocal group of fans has not been kind and Johnson’s responses have tried to point out the flaws in their arguments.The shadow Pokemonis a poison type and can be speculated to be his response to the fans that have tried to have a “discourse” with him regarding the film. The discourse with fans that spiraled away from polite and constructive criticisms inspired some of the elements of Johnson’s new movieKnives Outwhich is performing quite well and has a high score on Rotten Tomatoes.

On Twitter, many of the responses have been positive towards Johnson with a few of them being on the negative side, criticizing Johnson’s ability to converse with fans. Other Twitter users joined in on the fun with Johnson sending in screenshots of their shadily named Pokemon inPokemon GOthat do not target theStar Warsfandom.
