Undead Labs may be gearing up tobegin full development onState of Decay 3, but that doesn’t mean it’s leavingState of Decay 2behind anytime soon. After confirming that the game will continue to receive support this summer, the developer has dropped a slew of new features and updates designed to get the most out of playing it on the Xbox Series X.
With all of theother Xbox One games that have been optimized for the Series Xin the last few weeks, players should have an idea of what to expect by now. In addition to 4K/60fps performance,State of Decay 2now benefits from quicker load times and improved world and shadow detail. These, Undead Labs announced on the Xbox page, will ensure players are provided with “the highest-quality perma-death experience possible” on the Series X and Series S.

Visual upgrades aren’t the only thing that have been added to the game this week. There’s now a brand new difficulty option, known as Lethal Difficulty. Like the name implies, this bumps the challenge “right to the edge of impossible” by reducing the amount of resources in the world, making enemies hit harder, and increasing the deadliness of blood plague. Plague Hearts also grow much faster (increasing thespread of undead infestations), while the special “freak” zombies have been replaced with “amped-up blood plague variants.”
Aside from offering “the ultimate test of survival skill,” Lethal Difficulty comes with 100 Gamerscore worth of new achievements, providing extra incentive for completionists, as well as the option to fine-tune aspects of it in the Custom difficulty setting. Rounding off the new content, Undead Labs has released the Stay Frosty Pack, which adds over a dozen new winter-themed weapons, outfits, and more toState of Decay 2that players can earn through in-game challenges or find in the open world.
State of Decay 2is available for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
