Crossovers and cameos have become an increasingly popular aspect of pop-culture over the years. While a movie joining togetherhorror icons like Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorheeswas about as far as crossovers went back in the early 2000s, now collaborations between popular franchises and brands are commonplace, ranging from TV shows to movies to merchandise to video games. Interestingly though, Capcom has been ahead of this curve for decades, crossing over its own iconic franchises since the 1990s, and one of its most prolific collaborators has always beenStreet Fighter.
Debuting all the way back in 1987,Street Fighterhas always been, and remains to be one of Capcom’s flagship franchises, and as such Capcom has continued to useStreet Fighter’s charactersin its own collaborations. Over the last few decades,Street Fighterhas crossed over with a plethora of other video game and entertainment franchises, ranging fromFortnitetoSuper Smash Bros.toTekkentoMega Manto Marvel. WithStreet Fightergearing up for another crossover appearance – this time with Capcom’s recently released dinosaur co-op shooterExoprimal– it’s the perfect time to do some wishful thinking on where the long-running fighting franchise could go next.

Other Games That Street Fighter Should Cross Over With
One of the most common genres aStreet Fightercrossover appears in is the fighting game genre.Street Fighterhas collaborated with a number of fellow fighting game franchises over the years, with the biggest appearances being inSuper Smash Bros.,Tekken, and of course,Capcom’s ownMarvel Vs. Capcomseries. So, when thinking about where the nextStreet Fightercrossover could appear, it only makes logical sense that it would be with another beloved fighting game franchise.
By far the most requestedStreet Fightercrossover is withNetherRealm’sMortal Kombatseries. For decades now, fans of bothMortal KombatandStreet Fighterhave pleaded for a crossover of some kind, and for decades their wishes have been ignored. A few years ago, NetherRealm’s Ed Boon tweeted that a crossover between the two franchises isn’t all that easy to make happen, with each series being owned by a different publisher. On top of that,Mortal Kombat’s trademark over-the-top gore and violence wouldn’t quite suitStreet Fighter’s more colorful, cartoony visuals and tone.
Instead,Street Fightermight be better off crossing over with a fighting game franchise that’s a little more cartoony in nature. A great choice for aStreet Fightercrossover would beGuilty Gear Strive, an anime-inspired fighting game that has some very bright visuals and a similar gameplay style toStreet Fighter. Another good pick would beMultiVersus, providing it actually ends up returning in 2024, though with it being published by Warner Bros., the same publisher asMortal Kombat, it could face a roadblock.
Beyond fighting game crossovers,Street Fighteralso has a slew of Capcom games it could collaborate with, just like it’s doing forExoprimal.Street Fighteralready had a collab withMonster Hunter World, but it would be great to see a similar event forMonster Hunter Rise.Devil May Cryis another series that could handle aStreet Fightercrossover, either giving its characters askin based on iconic fighters like Ryu and Guille, or adding a whole new playable character with unique moves. A truly uniqueStreet Fightercrossover would be one withResident Evil, again adding costumes based on characters, or even adding in Ryu, Chun Li, or another fighter as an extra playable character for Mercenaries mode. ThisExoprimalcrossover has really opened the doors for some outside-the-boxStreet Fightercollaborations, and Capcom should run wild with it.
Street Fighter 6is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
