It seemed strange that Nintendo didn’t portSuper Mario Makerto the Switch for quite some time. Many gamers missed the home console version due to the Wii U’s small install base, making the title a no-brainer to be remastered for the hybrid system owned by more fans. However, Nintendo has now announcedSuper Mario Maker 2for the Switch, which explains its hesitation to port the first game.
Nintendo announced the sequel today during the Nintendo Direct presentation with a brief trailer. Not much information was given about the title, though it does appear to be quite similar to its predecessor from a gameplay standpoint. Of course, there will almost certainly be a few more tools added for players to play around with as well as improvements to placement and editing. Nintendo didn’t go so far as to give a specific date for the game, though it will be launching sometime in June of 2019.
With the recent news of the nextMetroidgame being scrapped and started over, it’s nice to see that Nintendo still had a few surprises up its sleeves to help fill in any gaps. WhileSuper Mario Maker 2probably isn’t as exciting as the nextMetroidtitle will be to most Nintendo enthusiasts, it certainly is a relief for any content-hungry fans on the system.
BesidesSuper Mario Maker 2, Nintendo supposedly has quite a bit in store for fans over the course of the next year or so. A recent rumor from a notorious Switch leaker has revealed that the company may have as many as11 unannounced games planned to release this year, though it’s not clear if any of those were revealed in today’s Nintendo Direct.
How the rest of the year will pan out for the gaming giant is uncertain, though fans likely have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. The company has confirmed thatit will be at E3 2019, unlike its competitor Sony, and there’s a good chance it’ll have a strong lineup of games to show off at its press conference.
Super Mario Maker 2is set to release in June 2019 for the Nintendo Switch.
