Taylor Sheridan’s most successful show so far isYellowstone, but a new announcement aboutTulsa Kingwill break his four-year-long franchise trend.Yellowstonealready has two spinoff shows-1883and1923- and there are more on the way. Some of theupcomingYellowstonespinoffsinclude6666, focusing on Jimmy’s time in Texas, theDutton Ranchspinofffocusing on Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler,The Madisonspinoffstarring Michelle Pfeiffer, andY: Marshals, focusing on Kayce Dutton. TheYellowstonefranchise is frankly huge, and it’s growing larger every day, even after theending of the mainYellowstoneseries.
Sheridan’s time, however, has not been solely focused onYellowstone. In fact, he’s one of the busiest writers in Hollywood, andSheridan has 10 movies and shows on Paramount+alone. Many of his shows have found massive success on their own -Landmaneven beatYellowstone’s viewership, for example - but none of them have been able to matchYellowstonein one key area. Sylvester Stallone’sTulsa Kingwill be the first show created by Sheridan that isn’t connected toYellowstoneto get a spinoff show of its own.
NOLA King Is Taylor Sheridan’s First TV Spinoff Outside The Yellowstone Universe
Tulsa King Is The Only Sheridan Show To Get A Spinoff Besides Yellowstone
AnupcomingTulsa Kingspinoff starring Samuel L. Jacksonwill mark the first time one of Taylor Sheridan’s shows other thanYellowstonecreated a spinoff series. Jackson is set to appear inTulsa Kingseason 3and then star in a new spinoff show titledNOLA King, which takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana. WhileSheridan isn’t very involved inTulsa Kinganymore - he only created the pilot, while Dave Erickson is acting as showrunner for season 3 - it is the first time one of his creations other thanYellowstoneis turning into a verifiable franchise.
All of Sheridan’s other shows are either tied intoYellowstoneor act as their own original projects.Yellowstone,1883, and1923all tell the story of the Dutton family and their fight to control their ranch.Shows likeLandman,Lioness, andMayor of Kingstown, however, are all standalone series that have never had spinoffs of their own. It’s the first step to makingTulsa Kinginto a franchise, and the first step to another Taylor Sheridan show rivalingYellowstonein terms of sheer scope and size.
Tulsa King’s TV Universe Can Be Just As Expansive As Yellowstone
Tulsa King Has So Much Potential To Become A Franchise As Large As Yellowstone
It’s honestly not very surprising thatTulsa Kingwas the first non-Yellowstoneshow to get a spinoff of its own. There’s so much room to expand the world ofTulsa Kingand Dwight Manfredi’s story that it just makes sense to turn it into a franchise.Chickie already set up a way forTulsa Kingto become a franchiseat the end ofTulsa Kingseason 2: Dwight could expand his operation to set up gangs in cities across the United States. Alternatively, spinoff shows can follow any one ofTulsa King’s colorful crime kingpins in their own exploits, which is whatNOLA Kingis already starting to do.
Tulsa Kingcould even do prequel shows likeYellowstonehas been doing. We know almost nothing about Dwight’s early life and his career as a mobster before he was arrested, and there could easily be aTulsa Kingshow about his rise to power in New York. Samuel L. Jackson’s character could get the same treatment ifNOLA Kingturns into a major success. There are also so many other interesting characters played by big celebrities - from Frank Grillo’s Bill Bevilaqua to Neal McDonough’s Cal Thresher - that there’s basically an unlimited amount of material forTulsa Kingto spin off.

In a few years time,Tulsa Kingmay be just as big - if not bigger - thanYellowstoneis right now.Much of it will depend on some key moments, such asNOLA King’s viewership andTulsa Kingseason 3’s story, but there’s plenty of potential. Taylor Sheridan may not be directly involved withTulsa Kinganymore, but there’s plenty of room for him to take control over his own spinoff show and find his long-awaitedYellowstonereplacement.
