The Better Sisterstar Jessica Biel has opened up on the possibility of the series returning for a second season. Based on the novel by Alafair Burke,The Better Sisterseason 1 follows two estranged sisters, who reconnect after the murder of one of their husbands, who was also the ex-husband of the other. Thecast ofThe Better Sisteris led by Biel and Elizabeth Banks, who also served as executive producers, and despite the show being a miniseries, there could be scope for a second season.

PerDeadline,Biel revealed that she would be open to returning for a possible second season, but it would have to make sense for the story. She stated how she loved the experience of working on the show, and working with the cast and crew, and complimented the set. However, she was quick to state that the possibility of a second season would depend on figuring out how that would work, especially asThe Better Sisterseason 1 was a miniseries, and the story has concluded. Check out Biel’s comments below:

Jessica Biel looking ahead in The Better Sister

Well, I would say that I loved the experience. I loved working with our entire cast and [showrunners] Olivia [Milch] and Regina [Corrado], they were amazing. They just made such a beautifully safe and warm set, as I know we’ve talked about before. But for me, it’s always like, “OK, where’s the level of believability? Where do we begin again? Do we have enough to say?”

Because, same withThe Sinner, for me, that was obviously always a limited series, and then it had different legs and went on this other journey that we didn’t expect, but we talked quite a lot about, “Well, could Cora Tannetti come back for Season 2? How would that work?” This is just one example of how it didn’t work for that one, but we just couldn’t find a way in that didn’t feel like we were like, “Well, we don’t want to watch her do this. What’s the fresh feel? What’s the new thing?”

And it was obvious that she just couldn’t be in it, which was a bummer on some level. And also, we knew it was the right decision from a produceral standpoint.

So, I would put a producer hat on at this point and go, “OK, so what are the options here? How are we going to be believable? Of course, we love seeing these women together. Of course, it’s so fun. How does it work? And is it enough to be as good or better than the first season?” So, I would ask those technical questions, but it was a dream job.

What This Means For The Better Sister

If The Stars Are Open To A Return, There Is Hope

Whilst the principal story ofThe Better Sisteris wrapped up in the eight-episode runtime, and Adam’s killer is revealed to be Nicky, Biel’s comments suggest she (and presumably Banks) are open to returning to their characters. Of course, as she states, it would need to make sense for the show to run another season, andthere would have to be a strong enough story forThe Better Sisterseason 2to happen. Theending ofThe Better Sisterwrapped things up in a pretty neat bow, but there was still just enough for the show to be able to return.

The seriesdeviated fromThe Better Sisternovel in a couple of ways, including a deeper look at the Gentry Group, as well as the death of Jake. These are two plot points that could be explored in a second season, but the story would have to work, and the characters returning would have to feel right for the show. The star power of Biel and Banks should be enough to get a greenlight for season 2, provided the scripts and story are strong enough to entice them back.
