Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Institute episodes 1 and 2!The Institutefeatures kids and teenagers with supernatural abilities, but one category mentioned, “PC,” hasn’t been fully explained yet. InThe Institute, children who are taken by the titular organization are given two different designations:“TK” for telekinesis, and “TP” for telepathy.ProtagonistLuke Ellis' powersfall under the TK category, withThe Institutecharactermoving objects with his mind.
However, episode 2 of theStranger Things-like Stephen King TV showintroduces the concept of kids who are labeled as “PC.“While the episode doesn’t explicitly state what this means, a conversation between Stackhouse and Dr. Hendricks shines some light on the idea. It also explains how this designation could be connected to Luke and his future.
“PC” In The Institute Stands For Precognition
The Term Involves Being Able To See The Future
While Stackhouse and Hendricks never reveal what a PC designation is by name, the fact the Institute deals with psychic powers implies what the term means.A PC is somebody who has precognition, which is the ability to see the future. Based on TK and TS being the main acronyms, it seems like this is a very rare condition.
However, the show has already hinted at the existence of a “precog” character, that being Annie, the homeless woman Tim befriended. In episode 2, she insists to Ms. Sloane that her daughter’s death wasn’t an accident, believing she too could be targeted. However, nothing has come of this as of writing, with PC remaining a mysterious power.
Luckily, there’s precedent for PC referring to precogs, or those who can see the future.King’s 2019 novel of the same name confirms the category does existwithin the organization running the Institute. Whether the show follows a similar path with PC’s is unclear, but it’s already hinting at how the concept is connected to Luke.
Why Luke Might Be PC In The Institute
He’s Just TK Right Now, But That Could Change Because Of His Biggest Asset
Sincereviews forThe Institutehave praised where the series goes, it seems like PC is going to get some sort of resolution at some point during the story.Stackhouse believes that Luke could be both TK and PCbecause of his hyper intelligence, something that no other resident at the Institute has displayed before. It makes him an asset.
It seemsStackhouse is hoping to take advantage of Luke’s potential as a PCalongside Dr. Hendricks, though whether he has the power remains to be seen. Given how disruptive him having both powers could be, it might be key toThe Institute’s escape story. If he can learn to harness both powers, he might be able to save everyone.
