The Mandalorianseason 3’s pirate plot makes a lot more sense now. Thanks to some newStar Warsreveals, we now know why the fleet of pirates was so determined to claim Nevarro as their own, led by Pirate King Gorian Shard. Based on the world’s specific location in the Outer Rim, it seems as thoughNevarro is a far more valuableStar Warsplanetthan we thought.
In the first two seasons ofThe Mandalorian, Nevarro was where the Children of the Watch were originally based, the clan of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal). After Moff Gideon’s Imperial Remnant was driven off the planet,Greef Karga became the world’s High Magistrate, transforming the world into a thriving planet of business and commerce. Now, we know why Nevarro was so important to Gorian Shard’s pirates, having everything to do with where the planet is specifically located.
Star Wars Has Confirmed Exactly Where Nevarro Is
A Prime Galactic Location
Lucasfilm has just releaseda brand-new and updated map of the entireStar Warsgalaxy. Featuring hundreds of worlds from some of the most recent shows and movies, many of these planets were featured inThe Mandalorian. This includes the volcanic world of Nevarro, with some key confirmation as to where it’s specifically located in the Outer Rim.
As seen on the newStar Warsmap, Nevarro is located directly between the Hydian Way and the Corellian Run, two massive hyperspace lanes and trade routes running across the entire known galaxy. As such, this explains how Karga was able to make the planet so prosperous so quickly. After all, one of the first things he did was turn Nevarro’s capital city into a major port, as seen at the beginning ofThe Mandalorianseason 3.
The Pirates Are Based On The Other Side Of The Galaxy
They Likely Came From Port Borgo
What’s most interesting about Nevarro’s location is what it means for the pirate attack inThe Mandalorianseason 3.Angered that his pirates were no longer welcome in Nevarro after Karga had used part of their treasure to build a cantina in the old capital city, Gorian Shard decided to claim the entire world as his own. However, it seems as though they traveled across the entire galaxy to make it happen.
After the pirates were defeated by Din Djarin and his fellow Mandalorians, the pirate known as Vane was one of the few survivors. Likewise, he ended up making a return appearance inSkeleton Crewat the pirate haven known as Starport Borgo.Assuming Shard and his fleet came from Port Borgo as well, this means the pirate fleet traveled a massive distance (from M-6 to K-20 on theStar Warsmap).
Nevarro Would Make A Brilliant Pirate Base
Perfect For Pirate Kingdom Expansion
Essentially, the pirates inThe Mandalorianseason 3 were hoping to expand their reach. By getting a base on the complete other side of the galaxy, the reach of Gorian Shard’s “kingdom” would be vast, especially with a planet so well-positioned. Had they been able to take over Nevarro’s port, they’d have been able to easily raid both the Hydian Way and Corellian Run with ease.
Ultimately, Nevarro was saved by Din Djarin, Bo-Katan Kryze, and the Children of the Watch joining forces in a battle that ended with Shard’s demise. Likewise, it’s doubtful that the planet will be threatened by pirates again. It also helps that Djarin now has a homestead on Nevarro with his adopted son Grogu,as seen at the end ofThe Mandalorianseason 3.Nevertheless, it’s fascinating to learn why these pirates were so determined to claim Nevarro as their own inThe Mandalorianseason 3.
