Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #5Hiliariously,Star Warshas seemingly made one of the craziest starship designs canon, having first originated inLEGOform. As seen in Marvel’s ongoingLegacy of Vaderseries, Kylo Ren is not Naboo, learning more about his grandfather’s history while also grappling with his own beliefs as the First Order’s new Supreme Leader. As such, the result is a major conflict featuring some absolutely wild starfighters.
InLegacy of Vader #5by Charles Soule and Stefano Raffaele,Kylo Ren has declared himself the new King of Naboo. A concept he’s personally obsessed with, Ren wants the world’s people to let go and kill their past, believing it to be the only path to true freedom and greater power. However, the way Kylo Ren decides to motivate the Naboo is just as surprising as the aforementioned starships.
Kylo Ren Has Waged War…On The First Order
Ordering General Hux and the First Order forces to invade the planet, Kylo Ren makes the shocking decision to mask his face and fight his own stormtroopers, inspiring the Naboo to take up arms with Ren himself leading and training them. After all, Ren was “raised in the tactics of the Rebellion”. Together, they turn every street, bridge, and rooftop into a battleground, using their knowledge of their cities to their advantage.
It also helps that Kylo Ren was able to gain intel directly from General Hux. Case in point, Kylo Ren knew that Hux planned to deploy one of the First Order’s Siege Dreadnoughts over the city with the most resistance, intending to wipe it completely off the map.As such, this provided the perfect opportunity for Ren’s Naboo Rebels to strike back, albeit in some of the strangestStar Warsships of all time.
Star Wars' Newest Naboo Battle Features “TIE-Wings” and “X-Fighters”
Just Like In LEGO’s Rebuild The Galaxy
Taking to the skies, it’s revealed that the only ships the Naboo civilians-turned-warriors have are decades-old fighters that have been cobbled together. This includesN1-Naboo starfighters, first seen inThe Phantom Menace. However, there are also several X-Wings and TIE Fighters being used…with swapped wings.
X-Wing cockpits are shown with the wings of what look to be TIE Strikers, and vice versa, with rounder TIE cockpits having the four wings of the classic Rebellion ship. To that end, it absolutely brings to mind the “X-Fighers” and “TIE-Wings” that were first seen in last year’sLego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, an animated series on Disney+ where reality itself was rebuilt in all kinds of strange ways.
I Love That These Mash-Up Fighters Are Now Canon
A Fun Meta-Nod?
Making their debut inRebuild the Galaxy(starring Mark Hamill, Ahmed Best, Sam Witwer, and more iconicStar Warsactors),the X-Fighters and TIE-Wings were just two of many changes the brick-builtStar Warsgalaxy was subjected to in the animated special. Other changes included Admiral Ackbar being the clone trooper template instead of Jango Fett, and Darth Vader and Palpatine being on the Jedi Council, andDarth Jar Jarbecoming a reality.
It’s also worth mentioning that themash-up starfighters were released as an actual LEGO set last year (75393). As such, it’s pretty funny that the ships have essentially been canonized thanks toLegacy of Vader, even if it doesn’t make a ton of sense. After all, it certainly seems like they had the parts to make multiple complete ships rather than several mismatched ones.Regardless, it’s still a very cool page nonetheless, including a couple of N1s that also got some TIE wings.
Star Wars: Legacy of Vader #5is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
