The Outer Worlds, Obsidian’s first-person RPG, is the first game to be shown during Xbox’s E3 2019 press conference. Obsidian shared a brand new, lengthy gameplay trailer forThe Outer Worlds, teasing the different options at the players' hands that will define their experience. In addition to debuting new gameplay, Obsidian confirmedThe Outer Worlds' release date. Fans can pick upThe Outer Worldsstarting October 25.

The newOuter Worldstrailer is accompanied by some new information about the game’s story. According to the new details, the player takes on the role of a colonist on a ship bound for the “furthest edge of the galaxy,” but something goes wrong. The player will wake up decades later and instantly gets caught up in a conspiracy that could destroy the new homeland of the Halcyon colony. That’s only where the story begins, however, as the game’s name implies. TheOuter Worldsawait.

Also obvious given theOuter Worlds' latest trailer is the open-faced politics at the heart of the game’s story. TheOuter Worldsis about an autocratic corporate society gone out of control. The Halcyon Corporation will do whatever it deems good for business, and it seems rather clear that the value of human life isn’t part of the equation. The line “Scheduled Scarcity is a premium feature of colonial life!” says everything about the kind of lives people in these colonies are forced to live. It’s the kind of dystopian setting that makes for a great RPG built around giving the player ethical dilemmas at every turn.

As a final reveal, a tiny pop-up message was shown asThe Outer Worlds' trailer was shown confirming that the game will be available on Xbox Game Pass. That’s not just the console Xbox Game Pass, but also the newly launchedPC Game Pass. The news comes as somewhat of a surprise sinceThe Outer Worldsis published not by Microsoft, but by Take-Two’s Private Division label. A surprise, but a welcome one.
