Ever since the introduction ofThe Simsback in 2000, the game has becomeextremely popular with players from all walks of lifethanks to its simulation of the real world. Now, developer Maxis confirmed that despite the ongoing pandemic happening in real-life, face masks and PPE will not be featured inThe Sims 4.

In an interview with GameByte, lead producer Graham Nardone shared a conversation within the studio about whether face masks should be included in the game to represent the real-life COVID-19 pandemic. However, during a Town Hall meeting, Maxis made the “conscious decision” to not include face masks in the game in order not to include the more troubling aspects of the real world inThe Sims4.

Furthermore, Nardone revealed that while devs enjoy bringing real-life elements in the game,The Simswill always be an optimistic look at life. Having face masks and PPEs in the game will only be a reminder of the terrible thing the world is going through right now, which defeats the purpose of allowing players to escape the miseries of the real world. Although it appears that face masks will never officially appear inThe Sims 4, those who want their simulated worlds to resemble reality can always download mods and add face masks themselves.

Speaking of escape, Maxis also introduced a new expansion forThe Sims 4called Snowy Escape. Since its launch last week, Snowy Escape has already received positive feedback from fans, given that the expansion allows Sims to unwind and visit the snow-filled vacation world of Mt. Komorebi. The latest pack is heavily inspired by Japanese culture that also features the thrilling experience of winter sports to the uninitiated. For those interested to pick up the latest expansion,The Sims 4: Snowy Escapeis available now for $39.99.
