UK fans have reason to rejoice because James Gunn’s gang of misfits inThe Suicide Squadwill be arriving on the big screen in the country a week before the film’s global release. The film has a release date of early August in the US, with it releasing in both theaters and HBO Max simultaneously, but the upcoming DC project will now premiere in UK theaters on July 30.

Gunn confirmed the news on his official Twitter account, without providing any reason for the sudden change. It remains unclear why the film’s release date was moved up in the UK, but it has got fans excited, as this means they will be able to catch the flick a week before the rest of the world.

The news ofThe Suicide Squad’s early release in the UK has left fans in other parts of the world feeling a little cheated. Most fans commenting on Gunn’s tweet were worried that UK fanswould reveal spoilers forThe Suicide Squadbefore they are able to watch the film. Information on which characters from the group of antiheroes will live or die might be shared on social media platforms, and such spoilers are usually very hard to avoid. Fans even joked about quitting social media for a week to avoid any leaks.

A comical war has begun on Twitter, with UK fans claiming this would be their form of revenge because most content is released first in the US, especially since Warner Bros. decided to bring their2021 lineup of films to HBO Maxsimultaneously with the theatrical releases. The Suicide Squadis being referred to as a soft reboot of the 2016 film, with some of the characters from the first one returning. The highly-anticipated film will bring back Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Apart from that, a bunch of new and interesting characters has been added to the roster, includingIdris Elba’s Bloodsport, John Cena’s Peacemaker, David Dastmalchian’s Polka-Dot Man, Peter Capaldi’s The Thinker, Sylvester Stallone’s King Shark, Sean Gunn’s Weasel, and Pete Davidson’s Blackguard.

Fans will first meet most of these quirky characters in Belle Reve, a prison where the worst criminals are locked up. The prisoners will be willing to leave this “hell,” asthe official synopsis ofThe Suicide Squadrefers to the prison, at any cost, including signing up for Task Force X. The R-rated film will then take fans on a violent journey, with Gunn hinting at several deaths in the film. If the trailer of the movie is anything to go by, it will be filled with blood, gore, and several explosions. Fans have also been informed by Gunn to stick around for several post-credits scenes.

The Suicide Squadis scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters and on HBO Max on June 22, 2025.
