It’s coming to Android and iOS soon

The reign of adorable little pocket monsters taking over your local park is nearly over. Soon, there will be terrifying monsters posted up next to the tetherball court.

CD Projekt Red is working on an augmented reality mobile game for itsWitcherfranchise. TitledThe Witcher: Monster Slayer, it seems to be exactly in the style ofPokemon Go, just with more ferocious creatures. Slaying these monsters takes more skill than flicking a ball, though. The Witcher: Monster Slayerdraws inspiration fromThe Elder Scrolls: Bladesfor its combat system, requiring slashes and stabs with perfect rhythm and timing.

The Witcher Monster Slayer

As for the canon ofMonster Slayer, this AR game takes place “long before the time of Geralt of Rivia.” There’s some sort of narrative running through it, as a description reads “experience story-driven quests that propel you through epic adventures inspired by theWitcherseries.” There’s some purpose here.

The Witcher: Monster Slayeris being developed bySpokko, which is a Polish mobile studio that was bought by CD Projekt Red in 2018. Chances are, Spokko was acquired and immediately tasked with this project. It fits too perfectly into CD Projekt’s portfolio.
